The Washington State Patrol is a premier law enforcement agency made up of dedicated professionals who work hard to improve the quality of life for our citizens and prevent the unnecessary loss of life on a daily basis. Found in 1921 by 6 motorcycle troopers, the WSP has grown into the largest public safety law enforcement agency in the state— with the responsibility of patrolling Washington's 17,524 miles of state highways. Today, the Washington State Patrol is made up of 50% commissioned officers and 50% civilian staff, all of who are hard working professionals dedicated to making Washington a safer and better place to live. The women and men of this department work tirelessly to serve the communities of Washington State.

  • The Washington State Patrol has three openings for a Forensic Scientist 3 (in-training) at the Federal Way and Seattle Toxicology Laboratories. Forensic Scientists play a crucial role in public safety by connecting the commission of a crime with its investigation and the prosecution of those responsible. A Forensic Scientist 3 is responsible for conducting analyses on submitted evidence using approved instrumentation and methods, interpretation of toxicology results, and providing testimony of their findings in court. The current monthly salary for a Forensic Scientist 3 (in-training) is $6,539 - $ 8,801. Additionally, they will receive an additional 5% geography pay for King County. This position has been designated as “in-training,” meaning the WSP may fill it at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary will vary based on the level of the position and the qualifications of the selected candidate.
