Hello to our museum community, If you live in western Maryland you are likely already aware of the news I am going to share. Our Director of Marketing & Communications Crystal Schelle was in a car accident last week and faces a long recovery period. It is uncertain whether she will be able to return to work. Over the last three years we have all enjoyed Crystal’s energy and dedication to the museum. She brought to her work hundreds of contacts that she had made during her career in journalism and used that network to help increase our visibility and relatability. We are a close, hardworking, and collaborative team at the museum, and Crystal is dearly missed. I ask your understanding as we work to sort through and reassign her various responsibilities. Since she ran our social media, you may notice less frequent posts for a time. Thank you for your understanding; I am sure many of you share in our sadness and concern. Sarah Hall, Executive Director

WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE DAY FOR GIVING TUESDAY! PLEASE DONATE TODAY to help us continue our mission. Since 1931, we have offered free access to our amazing collection. And through all these years it's been about the connection we have with our visitors. Sarah Hall, our executive director, enjoys collecting feedback from our visitors. Here are just a few examples: * I’ve been to many “smaller” art museums; this is one of the best I’ve visited. *A gem of a museum, never disappoints. Children’s illustrations and Picasso prints are again outstanding shows. * Accidental find. Too cold for us to hike. So here we are, wonderful.'' To read her entire letter and to donate today, go to https://lnkd.in/eepK4d3J

This has become one of Norman Rockwell's most iconic images. Called "Freedom from Want," and part of a series called "Four Freedoms," it depicts a typical American Thanksgiving for the March 6, 1943 edition of the Saturday Evening Post. Here is a great article that appeared in Art Net that tells us three things we probably didn't know about Rockwell's piece. Happy Thanksgiving! https://lnkd.in/eVt_28JH 🖼️: Norman Rockwell (American, 1894–1978) Four Freedoms -- Freedom from Want, lithograph, 1943. Gift of the Albert Lee Kaiss Family Trust, 2020.7.
