Helping Small Businesses Succeed in a Big Business World

About us

A Mission That Makes Us Proud: From a small, local cooperative that began with eight grocery store owners, Wakefern Food Corp. has grown into the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States. Founded in 1946, the cooperative includes nearly 50 member families who today independently own and operate hundreds of supermarkets under the ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, Gourmet Garage, and Fairway Market banners in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Unique Own Brand Offerings: Our award-winning private label lines Wholesome Pantry, Bowl & Basket, and Paperbird combine innovation with premium products to give consumers high-quality food options at prices they’ve come to expect at our stores while delivering an unmatched shopping experience. Where Being a Good Neighbor Comes First: At Wakefern, we take pride in the places where we live and work and believe in the power of giving back to strengthen our communities. A Culture That Lifts Us All Up: Wakefern associates represent equal parts ambition and heart. Our support for our communities and business partners is only matched by our support for one another, in both our professional and personal lives. Together, We Make Wakefern Work.

  • In 1999, ShopRite established the ShopRite Partners In Caring Program (SRPIC) — its signature hunger-fighting initiative that today supports more than 2,500 charities and has donated nearly $65 million to community-based organizations over the last quarter-century. And this spring, we’re celebrating the 25th Annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest, our hallmark fundraiser with General Mills, which raised $1.3 million for local food banks this year. Thank you to Wakefern’s member families and their retail teams for giving their all each year through the Cheerios contest to raise money to fight hunger. Join us in congratulating the Inserra family and their ShopRite of Ramsey team for being the top fundraiser in this year's contest — raising nearly $50,000 for food banks! And check out this video for some special moments from the Ramsey team's celebration and to learn more about SRPIC’s work in the community.

  • ShopRite's new campaign, "We Are Here," celebrates our members' enduring values of family, community and philanthropy. While each ShopRite store delivers its own unique experience catered to the families it serves, they all share one powerful message: We care here, we give back here and we celebrate YOU here ❤️ In that spirit, Sam Colalillo of ShopRite of Hunterdon County was all smiles presenting the grand prize winner of ShopRite's recent online Customer Appreciation Sweepstakes, Cathy, with a $2,500 ShopRite gift card at his family's ShopRite of Greenwich. Congratulations, Cathy, and thank you for supporting your local, family-owned ShopRite!

  • At ShopRite, we “dig” sustainability. 🌱 ShopRite’s family-owned stores composted more than 22 million pounds of organic material in 2024. Composting not only decreases the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, but also enriches soil with nutrients and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Price Rite Marketplace is proud to kick off the 11th Annual Feeding Minds & Bodies Campaign with Feed the Children and continue the tradition of helping thousands of families facing food insecurity. 🤝 The first of eight regional donation events planned this year took place recently at GoProvidence's popular Providence Culinary Collective in Providence, Rhode Island, where Price Rite provided boxes of food and hygiene essentials, backpacks filled with school supplies, children’s books, Price Rite Marketplace gift cards and more to nearly 400 local families in need. Price Rite thanks Feed the Children and all our community partners that support this critical campaign each year. http://spr.ly/6049FTbTX

  • Happy Earth Month! 🌎 For more than 50 years, ShopRite and Wakefern have supported and advanced a wide range of initiatives to reduce food waste, increase energy efficiency and boost recycling. ♻️ This month we’ll share how the family businesses that make up Wakefern are reducing the environmental impact of stores. Did you know ShopRite stores recycle approximately 131,000 tons of materials each year? Since opening our own recycling facility in the 1980s, Wakefern and ShopRite have recycled over 3.1 million tons of material.
