  • Last week, WAFCC AmeriCorps members joined fellow AmeriCorps programs from across the State in Madison, to meet with policymakers and staff to advocate for AmeriCorps' initiatives. While there, we had great conversations with various legislators and staff members and our members, Max Robin and Bharath Shetty, even spoke at a special event alongside notable AmeriCorps alumni now serving as State Representatives. We're energized by the connections made and inspired by the collective passion for service. Together, we’re creating real change—one conversation at a time! #AmeriCorps #ServiceMatters #Advocacy #WAFCC @ServeWisconsin

  • FCC Week 2025 Clinic Spotlight: HealthNet of Rock County Since 1994, HealthNet of Rock County has been caring for Rock County's residents. The clinic offers medical, dental, and telehealth mental/behavioral health services. When JJ and his sisters’ game got a little too rowdy, the fun took a turn! JJ ended up losing both of his front teeth! His mom was worried, were they his baby teeth or permanent ones? Thanks to the emergency dental appointments we keep open, we got JJ in within 24 hours. Typically terrified of the dentist, he had an entirely different experience in our sensory-friendly room. With gentle care and a calming approach, our team made sure he felt safe and comfortable. By the end, JJ was not only smiling (even with a gap!) but also officially established for regular care. His mom called it his best dentist visit ever! Providing compassionate, accessible care for kids like JJ is possible because of our incredible staff and partners like United Way Blackhawk Region. Together, we’re making sure every child gets the dental care they need—without fear. From all of us at WAFCC, thank you HealthNet care team for the compassionate care you show to all who enter through your doors! • FCC Week 2025 Clinic Spotlight: Lake Area Free Clinic (LAFC) LAFC provides medical services, including specialty care such as cardiology and gastroenterology. They also offer dental services, including x-rays and dentures, and accept BadgerCare. Last year, Kris was in need of medical and dental care. She came to LAFC and was given insurance enrollment assistance. "They helped me to get Badgercare. I went to pick up an antibiotic and thought, wow, I can get medication! These are things people take for granted.” Kris had bad dental experiences in the past that made her leery of getting treatment. She lost one of her front teeth and the other one was hanging on by a thread. “Dr. Fernandez, Kayla and Amanda were all wonderful! They gave me partial dentures. When I put them in, I started crying before I even saw them. Dr. Fernandez said, “You are so beautiful!” When I hugged him, I wanted him to feel every emotion in that hug to show my gratitude for getting myself back. It is an amazing gift to be able to smile at someone. They have given that back to me.” Here at WAFCC, we are proud to recognize the exceptional work and dedicated care that Lake Area Free Clinic provides patients like Kris.
