Why did nurse Yamari join our team? "I was looking for a translator job and I already knew something about the VNS program because I was a teen mom. In 2007 I attended the visiting nurse partnership program and the program helped my baby a lot before and after." It's the end of Social Worker Month and Women's History Month and we want to give a special shoutout to our Social Services Professional of the Year Award winner, Lizzie Cogan, LMSW! 🏆 Every day, Lizzie goes above and beyond for her patients and their families, whether it's making home visits, connecting others with community resources, advocating for her patients' safety, or working with her fellow social service professionals. “What I love most about my job is that I’m able to change a patient’s life in concrete ways, like connecting them with transportation to a doctor’s appointment—but I can also help them on a deeper level. A big part of every visit is tuning in to who they are as a person and deeply understanding all that they are going through. Both sides are so important, and I love that I get to help people with both.” Congratulations Lizzie! We're very grateful that you always strive to make your patients' and your team members' days better. And thank you to all of our social service professionals who give their all to provide quality care for our neighbors. ❤️ Check out some of the highlights from our Social Services Professional breakfast celebration. #WomensHistoryMonth #SocialWorkerMonth

Which nursing leader inspires Esther Kamara-Conteh? None other than our very own founder, Lillian Wald! Esther says, "Lillian Wald, was such a visionary figure. Her work 130 years ago still holds so much in common with what we do today. She looked around at the communities she worked in and saw significant issues that needed to be addressed. So, she took action. And that way of seeing the world, of instilling change, is very much a part of the culture here at VNS Health today." Esther, this #WomensHistoryMonth, we celebrate women like you who are carrying on the legacy of Lillian Wald! #Nursing #CommunityHealth

Individuals struggling with mental health crises like suicide may need a loved one, mental health specialist, or a social worker to support them. However, a less well-known professional can also help a person based on their own previous life experiences: peer specialists. Peer specialists advocate for the peer, making sure they get the right care when they need it most. Read more about the important role peer specialists play for mental health crises like suicide prevention. https://bit.ly/4kKeUbj #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealthCare #PeerSupport #CrisisCare
