Vesta, PBC is excited to share that we have 3 new job openings for geochemists and geochemical modelers. All positions will include occasional travel to field sites, laboratories, or conferences.  Qualified candidates may apply to more than one position but must submit separate applications tailored to each position, if so desired. The initial anticipated salary range for each of these positions is between USD $85k (post-doc, assistant faculty equivalent) to $150k (associate/full professor, corporate director equivalent) depending on demonstrated experience and position fit.

We started Absolute Climate to ensure that credit claims always match climate impacts. Today, we’re announcing a partnership with Vesta, PBC to take that work into oceans for the first time. Over the coming months, we’ll co-develop the MRV framework and methodology for Coastal Carbon Capture and apply the Absolute Carbon Standard to marine carbon removal. This is an important step toward ensuring ocean-based carbon removal is consistently held to the same high bar for transparency, verification, and impact. Here are some exciting highlights from Hourglass Climate's recent work on the ecological impacts and benefits of Vesta, PBC's completed Coastal Carbon Capture pilot project in Southampton, New York (available as pre-print here: https://lnkd.in/eF3CiU76) ▪ Oysters showed minimal bioaccumulation of nickel even when grown directly on top of a thick layer of olivine sand. ▪ Maximum nickel concentrations measured in oysters was less than 1/20th the FDA's human consumption guidelines for oysters. ▪ The results may even show a slight benefit to oyster biomass because of increased alkalinity - something worth exploring more in future studies. This study demonstrates minimum impacts, and possibly even slight benefits, of combining coastal enhanced weathering with shellfish aquaculture. Combined with other ongoing studies, this dramatically advances our understanding of how, when, and where to safely deploy carbon-removing olivine along coasts. It also opens the door to synergistic projects combining Coastal Carbon Capture with ecosystem and fisheries restoration.

Its hard to describe how excited we are to share that our first preprint of results from the mERW/OAE field trial, which Vesta, PBC launched back in 2022, is now available online! This manuscript has significant implications for our understanding of potential co-benefits of OAE, as well as environmental impacts. Earlier in July, Vesta, PBC, a company focused on ocean carbon removal, announced it has deposited 8,200 metric tons of carbon-absorbing olivine sand near the shoreline of Duck, North Carolina. https://bit.ly/3AebB9w
