With great pride and gratitude, today we bid farewell to Dave Patterson, who is retiring after 40 years at AOT! Dave began as a patrolman at our Maintenance District 3 Ludlow garage in 1985 and proved to be an extremely strong leader with an unmatched work ethic. In 1994, he was promoted to Transportation Senior Maintenance Worker, and in 2004, his knowledge, skills, leadership, and core values once again afforded him a promotion to Transportation Area Maintenance Supervisor, the position he has served in for more than 20 years. Dave plans to spend his new-found free time working in and updating his sugar woods and maple syrup operation. CONGRATULATIONS, Dave, and THANK YOU for your dedicated service to the State of Vermont and the communities you have served! We wish you a long, healthy, and happy retirement!

Last week I had the privilege of touring the Construction & Materials Bureau’s Central Laboratory located in Berlin, VT. This state-of-the-art laboratory operated by the Vermont Agency of Transportation does extensive testing on concrete and pavement formulas as well as other materials used to reinforce sites where larger structures like bridges and culverts are being built. It was fascinating to learn from the lab technicians and engineers who staff this facility how climate change is impacting roadway performance and existing infrastructure. Concrete and paving formulas will continue to evolve alongside design to ensure that safe and sustainable road systems are constructed and maintained throughout the Green Mountain State. #transportation #infrastructure #localroads #climatechange #vermont
