This week's Captivated Blog comes from VCIA 40th Anniversary sponsor WTW and authored by Jason Palmer and Ed Koral. What is captive mission drift? Captive insurance companies more than five years who may have an "over-accumulation of surplus, under-utilization, a lack of focus/direction in investment strategy, or all the above." Find out how you can avoid captive mission drift from this insightful article by our 40th anniversary sponsor: https://lnkd.in/eGpMPjUn

Hill Day was incredibly effective and enlightening. We're proud to say it will be an annual VCIA event going forward so we can serve our members' interests. https://lnkd.in/eKHtDBcp
The first post-COVID VCIA Hill day was a great success! A full day of meetings in the offices of Senators and Representatives from both parties shows the broad acceptence of captive insurance as a risk management tool. Great questions from bright and knowledgeable staffers and an enthusiastic welcome for our offer to act as an information source as risk management and insurance issues surface in Congress. Board Chair Gail Newman and Board member Joe Carter provided the owner perspective, while Joe Holahan and Zaw Win brought their legal and service provider acumen to the conversations. We were ably guided to and through our appointments by Jeffrey Klein and Arshawn Teymoorian, and all the participants agreed that this was an initiative to be repeated and expanded. VCIA members should be on the lookout for an extensive briefing on our visit and how the association protects and advances industry needs at the federal level.

VCIA's 2025 Hill Day, a federal advocacy mission on behalf of the protection and interests of the captive industry, is in the books. It was a gorgeous blue sky day on Capitol Hill, and more than that, a massive opportunity VCIA seized to educate federal lawmakers on the critical role captive insurance plays in the overall insurance landscape. What did we learn? Well, we're glad you asked... Specific notes and follow up action items will be shared with VCIA Members shortly in a Hill Day Report, presented by VCIA 40th anniversary emerald and pearl sponsors M&T Bank/Wilmington Trust AIG AM Best Marsh Old Republic Risk Management WTW Special thanks to the VCIA Hill Day delegation, CEO Kevin Mead, Board Chair Gail Newman, Legislative Committee Chair Zaw Win, Board member Joe Carter and BakerHostetler lawyer Joe Holahan, as well as representatives from McIntyre & Lemon, PLLC, including point person Jeffrey Klein who was instrumental in making arrangements with the elected officials. We know that captive legislative advocacy is a priority for our members, and equally important is the time and manner in which that legislative intelligence is communicated to you all. It's foundational to our new strategic plan and legislative advocacy and communication is a pillar we're committed to enhancing. Members, stay tuned for the Hill Day Report to be released either later this week or early next!
