Last Friday, 2/7, was National WEAR RED DAY to raise awareness of Women's No. 1 killer - cardiovascular disease, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. Cardiovascular disease impacts some women at higher rates than others, but the simple truth is that most cardiovascular diseases can still be prevented with education and healthy lifestyle changes. In addition, it's also American Heart Month! Heart disease and stroke can affect a woman at any age, making it vital for all women to understand their personal risk factors and family history. There's a terrific sense of community here in northern New England, and that care of our communities is why we're here and why Dartmouth Health is based here. It's something I witness every day and never take for granted. I see it in our community hospitals providing care close to home, and especially in how we engage beyond our hospital walls. We know that health is shaped by everyday factors like food security, housing, and education. That's why our partnerships with local non-profits matter so much.
