Hinkle Fieldhouse, a historic gem, faced the challenge of needing modern air conditioning and heating. In 2019, the university launched a $10.5 million renovation and enlisted Validated Custom Solutions (VCS) to tackle this issue while preserving the landmark's integrity. VCS replaced the outdated heating system with two stacked 60,000 CFM units for heating and cooling, meticulously built wall-by-wall, fan-by-fan, and coil-by-coil due to space constraints. The VCS team showcased their ingenuity by navigating around structural beams and an old coal chute, ensuring the units fit with inches to spare. They also installed catwalks for easy maintenance and added a rooftop unit with a vestibule to protect workers from the elements during service.
