Des Moines residents can now place their orders for up to five FREE tree seedlings to plant on their own property! As one of the Public Works Department's most popular programs, Tiny Trees helps the City work towards its goal to expand the urban tree canopy by enlisting the help of Des Moines residents. Since the program's debut in 2017, the Forestry Division has given away tens of thousands of trees to people from all corners of Des Moines. Scroll through all nine of this year's species to decide what you'd like to plant on your property this spring, then head to DSM.city/TinyTrees to complete your order! You can also sign up to volunteer at our April 26 Tiny Trees Giveaway event! Help us expand Des Moines' urban forest by adding beauty to your home and growing the natural canopy in your community!

I am proud to serve on the board of Urban Ambassadors and host these vital conversations at our monthly Green Drinks events in Des Moines. Last week, Laura Nielsen gave an excellent presentation on urban canopies and community health – a topic that feels especially relevant as cities worldwide grapple with rising temperatures and air quality challenges. These local gatherings are, for better or worse, the places where individuals can make the most change. If you're in the Des Moines area and passionate about sustainability, join us at our next Green Drinks event, February 6th at Twisted Vine Brewery. Every conversation moves us closer to a more resilient community. 🌳
