This week we had our annual fire safety training, which includes hands-on fire extinguishing practice for all team members and a lesson on how to appropriately address an emergency situation.

A recent article from S&P Global delves into the need to redefine the current energy transition and reassess strategy. We have experienced shifts in the energy mix before, from wood to coal for greater efficiency and from coal to gas for improved cost and functionality, and in none of these cases was there an abrupt or complete change, so why is this transition expected to be any different? This transition is driven by our need to reduce emissions, but a complete phaseout of hydrocarbons is unrealistic, as they are a critical part of ensuring energy security and are a significant revenue source for many countries. In a recent strategy reset, BP limits investment in renewable energies and focuses efforts on growing oil and gas production as hydrocarbon demand continues to be strong and the transition has not proceeded at the rapid pace many projected. With increased emphasis on hydrocarbon production, it is more important than ever that companies turn to innovative solutions that improve the value of traditional energy sources and keep sustainability and efficiency at the forefront. Energy sustains our modern daily lives and as global dependance on power continues to increase the industry must simultaneously emphasize continued innovation to improve efficiency and sustainability of our energy sources. Maria Elna Veiga, a 60-year-old Cuban that lives just 60km northwest of the capital, is experiencing the fallout of frequent blackouts from the islands failing power grid and has had to turn to charcoal as the go-to fuel for cooking. Today marks the halfway point of our annual "Choose to Lose" challenge, a wellbeing program at Upwing that encourages healthy habits, teamwork and dedication. Integrative and Functional Nutritionist, Stacey Venneman, presented practical nutrition strategies to team Upwing this afternoon on simple, healthy habits to implement that will help us achieve our personal nutritional goals.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) expects to see an average 4% annual increase in electricity consumption through 2027, driven primarily by the expansion of power hungry sectors and increased electrification. In these coming years, as the power mix increases use of renewables and the world becomes increasingly reliant on energy, it is crucial that industry focuses on providing resilient and reliable electricity.
