How can #cities become more resilient to climate challenges like #flooding? One key approach is the implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) - nature-based solutions that help manage stormwater while enhancing urban livability. At this year’s #RedSUDS Conference in #Santander (April 7 - 8), over 200 experts came together to explore the role of SUDS in boosting climate resilience in urban areas. Representing AQUATEC, Montse Martinez Puentes presented the work done within the UP2030 HE project, focusing on the #Granollers pilot. 🌍 The Municipality of Granollers recently welcomed 16 students from the City Resilience Design and Management International Master’s program! Led by Professor Lorenzo Chelleri and his research team from Universitat Internacional de Catalunya the visit focused on exploring the city’s development projects and resilience strategies. The journey began at the top of Josep Umbert Street, offering a panoramic view of the city’s undeveloped spaces. There, students were introduced to Granollers’ pathway in the UP2030 HE project. 📍 With the help of a map, they followed the planned stops and gained first-hand insight into the city’s vision for the future! In #Thessaloniki, a pilot city in the UP2030 HE project, a recent workshop brought together local residents and officials to weave community insights into environmental goals, aiming for a more sustainable and accessible urban environment. The main objective was to engage local residents and officials in designing solutions that address both climate change and community needs, such as reducing heat in the city, cutting CO2 emissions, and enhancing public spaces. The event was organized into three sessions: 🔹 First Session: Targeted elderly citizens, incorporating their perspectives on making the city safer and more navigable. 🔹 Second Session: Welcomed the general public to contribute their ideas and priorities. 🔹 Third Session: Involved civil servants who are crucial for implementing these plans. A fantastic workshop was held in #Münster, a pilot city in the UP2030 HE project. The main goal? To make neighborhoods friendlier to the climate, using a special guide called the "Guideline for Climate-Just Neighborhoods in Existing Areas," developed by Buro Happold. 🔹 About the Guideline: This guideline serves primarily as an internal working aid for the administration. It is a collection of existing knowledge, implementation examples, concepts, tools, and processes to help us look after the environment better and adapt to climate change right where we live. It's all about working together and sharing what we know. 🔹 Hands-On Learning: In the workshop, everyone got to step into the shoes of different stakeholders to see how this guideline could make their jobs easier and the city better. This was a fun way to see real-life challenges and figure out new solutions. 🔹 Talking It Out: There were some great discussions, too. First, everyone’s thoughts and suggestions about the guideline were collected. Then, ways to put these plans into action in Münster were brainstormed. __________________________________________________________________ We are committed to transforming Münster into an example of spatial justice and sustainability, and such workshops are pivotal in our journey.
