  • Staff Spotlight🔦: Meet our teacher Amber Quinn! 💫 Amber constantly creates a familiar, safe, and welcoming space for students. She starts her day by greeting students and supporting a warm welcome to homeroom, then shifts into dedicated reading intervention, and ends her time with her students supporting their curriculum knowledge across all contents. During the day she collaborates with her colleagues and spends dedicated time building relationships with families and students. We are grateful to our passionate Special Education teachers, such as Amber. Our educators provide crucial academic, emotional and physical support to students with disabilities, in addition to believing in their capability of high academic achievement. Send some love to Amber below! 👇🏾

  • We've all heard it before: feedback makes you stronger and that it certainly true at Uncommon Schools. This Education Next article features an interview with Juliana Worrell, our Chief Schools Officer K-8, on how Uncommon Schools uses school inspections to accelerate student achievement and how other schools around the country are now learning how to do the same. Take a couple of minutes to read this because feedback is a gift. https://lnkd.in/eEAdcY3G

  • Adam Diop sends her two sons to Uncommon Excellence Boys and says it's one of the best decisions she has ever made for their education. She loves to hear her sons talk about brotherhood and watch them excel academically.  “For me your kids can go to any school in NYC, but the fact that my voice is heard here, my feelings are considered, my culture is respected, I feel like that is the best school.”

  • Much like teaching, note-taking is a skill, the more you do it, the better you see your mistakes and learn from them. In this month's Uncommon Sense blog science teachers will learn there are three key steps they can take to ensure that this skill is developed in students so they can be successful in STEM and beyond! Check out the Uncommon Sense Blog today! https://ow.ly/6KZ350VrLi8

  • While 2% of American teachers are Black males nationwide, at Uncommon Schools, they make up 9% of our educators. Today, over 100 Black male teachers and leaders gathered to celebrate the second Uncommon Male Educator Summit to discuss how they collectively impact and strengthen our community. We create spaces for Black Male Educators across Uncommon to network, build community, and engage in meaningful discussions and workshops. #BlackMaleEducators #TogetherWeRise Jaz Grant Denarius Frazier Quinterrence Bell

  • On #WorldSocialWorkDay and every day, we appreciate the social workers who support the community at Uncommon Schools. One of our amazing and dedicated staffers is Dr. Nadine Cenord, Social Worker at Uncommon Brownsville North Elementary. Dr. Cenord has gone above and beyond to support her students and community this year, including filling in for vacancies on her team while ensuring scholars receive uninterrupted support and services. Her dedication, compassion, and commitment to meeting the needs of our students are commendable. If you see Dr. Cenord (or any other Social Workers) in the halls of your scholar’s school, feel free to share your gratitude for the work they do - their support of our scholars is truly inspiring!
