💧The Lake Michigan-Huron basin received well above precipitation in March. Precipitation and snowpack, particularly in the northern half, contributed to above normal runoff in the basin. 📈As a result, the water supplies (precipitation + runoff – evaporation) were well above normal in March. Along with the transition to Spring, the Lake Michigan-Huron mean water level rose from February to March, beginning its seasonal rise. Over the next few months, Lake Michigan-Huron is forecast to continue this rise and peak around July before beginning its seasonal decline. 🖇To check out the latest 6-month water level forecast, please visit our website at the following link: https://lnkd.in/gdSzCRsV and the link to the Midwestern Regional Climate Center’s March precipitation graphic: https://lnkd.in/gJcizjNY #HydraulicsandHydrologyHumpDay #GreatLakesWaterLevels U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division | U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District | U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District

👨💼 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers monitors and forecasts the water levels of each of the Great Lakes. 📈 Seasonal changes in weather patterns typically cause an annual trend of rising and falling of Great Lakes water levels. 🌦 Each of the Great Lakes exhibits a seasonal rise in the spring primarily caused by an increase in liquid precipitation, increased runoff due to melting of accumulated snow, and low evaporation rates. ⛄️ The typical seasonal decline of the water levels occurs during the fall and winter, and is primarily caused by an increase in evaporation, a decrease in precipitation, and the accumulation of snowpack on the land area. 📲 https://lnkd.in/gzUieRf5 #USACE #DetroitDistrict #GreatLakes #WaterLevels
