What if microplastic-shedding materials were replaced with leather or silk grown from mycelium or yeast? What if sustainable fuels could be brewed with microbes feasting on plant or industrial waste? A new report from BIO breaks down the economic contribution of bioproducts like these, including animal, biologicals, and plant biotech, identifying factors that help or hinder growth. 🌟 As much as 60% of the physical inputs to the global economy, including many household items, could potentially be produced or substituted using biology! 🌟 Biotechnology Innovation Organization, #bioeconomy Swipe through the report below👇

We are saving everyone an eye roll 🙄 this morning by foregoing a bad April Fool’s Day joke, and instead sharing about a sweet volunteer event with our PDX Twisters! Wilsonville Twisters volunteered for the Children’s Book Bank at SMART Reading, in Northeast Portland 📚 As volunteers, we inspected the books to make sure they were not too damaged to be given back to children. (The books that are too far gone get recycled, sometimes by artists who repurpose them for things like collage!). Then we used a variety of art supplies to restore the books that were in better condition by removing stickers and marks, covering up old inscriptions, and touching up minor wear and tear. Finally we used a gentle cleaner to sanitize the books before sorting them into their appropriate age categories. 😃 We had a very fun and fulfilling time giving back to our community with SMART. We are happy to have restored many books that afternoon! Special thanks to: Cameron Backus, Manuel Binford, Reanne Alysone Ramos, Ashley Susee, Claire Paulsen, and Samantha Brotherton.
