About us
TLC's mission is to improve lives and expand possibilities for individuals with special needs through diagnostic, therapeutic, educational and employment programs. Today, TLC serves more than 2,200 individuals in our community each year through the following programs: • The Katherine Thomas School— Private day school for students in pre-school through 12th grade with language and learning disabilities and/or high functioning autism. • Testing and Tutoring Service — Psychological and educational testing, tutoring, and counseling for students with learning and emotional difficulties. • Outcomes Service — Career assessments, employee development services, community employment services, transitioning youth services for individuals with developmental disabilities. • Outpatient Services —Speech and occupational therapy for children with a wide range of special needs including autism spectrum disorders. • The Family Hearing Center— Audiology clinic providing hearing evaluations, hearing aid fittings and related counseling for the entire family. The Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredits TLC’s Outcomes Service, and TLC’s Katherine Thomas School is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education.

The KTSPA hosted another fun and successful Casino Night on Saturday, March 29th at Lakewood Country Club. Kudos to Taylor Craig and her team of parent volunteers for creating a great atmosphere for the community to connect while raising funds for the school. Proceeds from this year's event will support the new playground and community space project at KTS, planned for July 2026. The project will replace the 25-year-old playground and provide necessary gathering, play, and learning spaces to better serve the needs of all our students. We are grateful to our sponsors, staff and faculty donors, and the entire KTS community for coming together in support of the school.

Shauntise Person's high school art students learned about the life and art of Jacob Lawrence, an African American painter who was known for his depictions of African American historical subjects and everyday life. Students created a collage of a city inspired by Lawrence's paintings of Harlem, cutting and pasting geometric shapes to make their cities come to life.
