From our recent newsletter: New York Attorney General Letitia James and others have requested a block on the Trump administration's order to cut $11 billion on public health initiatives. These funds go towards a range of services such as federal COVID relief, mental health and substance use treatment, maternal health, and food security. According to City Council, "About $100 million of the slashed funding went toward public health efforts in New York City." A collaborative network working to strengthen and integrate the healthcare and housing systems in New York City
About us
The Health & Housing Consortium, Inc. DBA the Bronx Health & Housing Consortium is a collaborative network of more than 60 healthcare, housing, social service, and government agencies with the shared goal of strengthening and integrating the healthcare and housing systems in New York City at the policy, operational, and individual client/patient levels. We work in three core areas: (1) Research & Advocacy, to better understand the needs of and improve resources for people with physical and behavioral health needs who are also experiencing homeless or housing insecurity; (2) Training & Resource Development, to equip frontline staff serving this population with the information and support they need; and (3) Cross-Sector Collaboration, to bring together stakeholders from different sectors who are serving some of the same people in order to improve communication and coordination of care.

From our recent newsletter: With a new shelter policy taking place that could let the Department of Homeless Services turn people away from shelters, DHS Commissioner Molly Park says this plan is "really designed to build a culture of accountability across DHS." The new proposal rules include people who "fail to maintain active public benefits cases, turn down a housing placement or repeatedly violate shelter rules." However, they may be notified and given multiple warnings first if they were out of compliance and "given a chance to rectify the situation before ultimately getting kicked out." Dave Giffen, executive director of the Coalition for the Homeless, disagrees with these measures and believes this would "likely to result in more homeless New Yorkers ending up on the streets and in the subways". Shout out to the amazing work our members Anthos|Home are doing to improve the housing voucher process in NYC. Even people who secure vouchers often have tremendous difficulty finding apartments. To remedy this, Anthos|Home collaborates with tenants, landlords, local government, nonprofits, housing providers, and private funders to help voucher holders access affordable housing. Check out there new video showing how they help families and individuals quickly move into safe, stable housing: https://lnkd.in/exmaa3eJ

The Consortium is in Albany today to show our support for the Human Services Council of New York's #JustPay campaign! Human services workers are the backbone of this state and in times of increased uncertainty, we need a strong nonprofit sector. We stand with all of our members and colleagues as they fight for a 7.8% investment on all State human services contracts, the passage of S1580/A2590 to guarantee that all nonprofit human services programs are eligible for State cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) funding, and S3953/A5589 (Wage Board legislation) to address the pay gap between nonprofit and government human services workers.
