Ohio Governor Mike DeWine in support of proposed new legislation on cell phone use in schools, stating that banning cellphones in all of Ohio's K-12 schools will improve kids' mental health, focus and learning. Under Senate Bill 158 Ohio school districts would have to prohibit cellphone use by students during school hours starting September 1, 2025. Two years ago, Ohio did what few other states had done previously by allowing every family the ability to receive a voucher to pay for private school. School choice advocates praised the action stating the expansion would give opportunities to children who would never otherwise attend a private school. However, public school leaders criticized the action, warning it would siphon funding for public schools.
