We are thrilled to share that Shaloni Winston has been named the 2025 Remarkable Woman of the Capital District! Shaloni was chosen out of multiple nominees who are making a difference in our region. Shaloni stood out for her visionary leadership and life-changing supports for people. As part of this honor, Shaloni was awarded $1,000 to donate to a nonprofit of her choice. She selected Transitions, a program she founded to support young people with autism and learning differences as they pursue college, careers, and independent living. Shaloni will join 124 other honorees from around the country at a national awards ceremony in Los Angeles. As CEO of The Arc Lexington, Shaloni has long been a force for inclusion and advocacy in the disability community. But it was her daughter’s diagnosis of Turner Syndrome that sparked a deeply personal mission—one that led to Transitions, a groundbreaking response to the lack of post-high school support for neurodiverse young adults. Since launching in 2015, Transitions has grown to serve more than 110 students across multiple Capital Region campuses. The program empowers participants through self-advocacy, executive functioning, wellness, and academic and social skill-building—creating a safe, supportive space where students can discover their strengths and thrive. Shaloni’s influence extends far beyond Transitions. Under her leadership, The Arc Lexington supports over 1,300 individuals and families across Fulton, Albany, and Schoharie Counties. Her work has created a transformative model of support and expanded opportunities for those often left behind. She has truly been a trailblazer—redefining what’s possible for neurodiverse young adults and inspiring change across the field. This award celebrates not just Shaloni’s achievements, but her heart, her courage, and her unwavering belief in every individual’s potential. Please join us in congratulating Shaloni on this incredible and well-deserved recognition! Big News! The Arc Lexington is proud to be among the 12 workforce development awardees selected for funding through the Mohawk Valley Empowers program! With this $977,000 grant, our Transitions Program will partner with Fulton-Montgomery Community College and SUNY Cobleskill to expand career training opportunities for young adults with learning differences. Through this initiative, we are launching new microcredential programs that will provide industry-relevant training, soft skills development, and hands-on work experience empowering young adults with disabilities to enter the workforce and build independent, fulfilling lives. A key part of this expansion is strengthening our business partnerships, ensuring that students have access to job-related internships and hands-on training in real work environments. This investment recognizes the impact of inclusive workforce development and the importance of providing young adults with the tools they need to succeed in college, employment, and independent living. We are deeply grateful to Governor Hochul, Empire State Development, and the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council for their support, and to SUNY FMCC and SUNY Cobleskill for their collaboration in creating meaningful career pathways for our students. Seeking Applications! If you or someone you know is looking for a supportive, career-focused program for young adults with learning differences, visit www.transitionsusa.org or call (518) 775-5384 to learn more about our expanding career training opportunities.
ESD Commissioner Hope Knight joined local leaders to announce $10M for 12 workforce projects through Mohawk Valley Empowers, advancing Governor Hochul's vision for stronger regional economies through jobs training: https://on.ny.gov/4hxC5nj
