Breaking News! Our advocacy efforts are paying off! 🎉 Representative Behn has officially been added as a sponsor to HB296, which would require insurance coverage for stuttering therapy! TAASLP members worked hard to advocate for this important bill by meeting with legislators, sharing personal stories, and raising awareness during DOTH. DOTH may be over, but our advocacy isn’t! Keep the momentum going! If you haven’t already, write to your legislators to show your support. Visit the ASHA Take Action site to submit your letter today https://lnkd.in/e27NytXY

Day on the Hill Recap On March 4th, 33 TAASLP members, including SLPs, audiologists, and students, came together to advocate for our professions! We had 30 scheduled meetings with legislators, participated in letter-writing campaigns, dropped off more than 50 one pagers with our bill information, and attended committee hearings to make our voices heard. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making a difference! Contact us at info@taaslp.org to learn how you can get involved!

A great Day on the Hill with Tennessee Association of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (TAASLP) and Freed-Hardeman University CSD students! Students learned about SB231/HB296, ensuring that essential speech therapy services for stuttering are accessible to Tennesseans. Ex-NBA star, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 🏀 helped us advocate for this bill. Kidd-Gilchrist even sent his photographer for the day & students got to talk on camera about these advocacy efforts in between meeting with legislators! #speechpathology #audiology #stuttering #communicationscience #advocacy

Registration closes 02/26/25 at midnight. Agenda: 12:00-1:00 EST Virtual Presentation “Sometimes Value Doesn’t Translate to Adequate Payment: How Advocacy Can Help” Abstract: SLPs and AUDs are facing payment reductions across Tennessee threatening the viability of their practices and access to care for their patients. Unfortunately, these reductions are not tied to the clinical value and expertise they provide but payer efforts to control spending. Providers are even more hamstrung by anti-trust laws that make trade association-based negotiation of rates very difficult. This session is designed to provide brief background on how CPT codes are created and valued. It will also walk through the various budget control mechanisms payers and lawmakers use that undermine the value of these codes and undercut the tremendous clinical value audiologists and SLPs contribute to the quality and outcomes of care across the lifespan and practice settings. Utilizing this information, session participants will be prepared to know the system and advocate with payers and lawmakers to help avert additional payment reductions.
