In this blog post, we share THN!’s approach that turned ambitious goals into reality. Winning a federal grant involves building an ecosystem-wide effort that brought together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, and government partners to develop a rigorous process to determine: Can we compete? Can we win? Key takeaways: - How to strategically assess your competitiveness before investing resources - Why community engagement was crucial to identifying our winning quantum technology focus - The critical role of public-private partnerships and expertise - How our process strengthened multiple initiatives beyond just the winning proposal The impact? Beyond securing an EDA Tech Hub designation and $127M in total funding, our collaborative approach helped strengthen Colorado's innovation ecosystem, with multiple teams securing additional state and federal support. "Quantum computing holds the worldwide potential to generate as much as $850 billion in economic value a year by 2040, according to a study published by Boston Consulting Group...For Colorado to succeed, its business leaders, policymakers and institutions must act with urgency. The lessons from other quantum hubs and the cautionary tales of regions that failed to capitalize on early leadership are clear: Standing still is not an option." From Elevate Quantum consortium partner Quantinuum ‼️
🥇 Announcing a step toward the 1st commercial application for quantum computers! Quantinuum, along with our partners JPMorganChase, Argonne National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and The University of Texas at Austin, have turned our quantum computer into a reliable and accessible source of high-quality randomness. As published in Nature Magazine today, together, we have achieved the first successful demonstration of Certified Randomness. What is randomness and why does it matter? ✅ Randomness is essential for securing cryptography behind all types of electronic communication, a bedrock of the modern economy. ✅ From regulated industries to critical infrastructure, today’s organizations demand the strongest available cybersecurity to protect IP, assets, and user privacy. ✅ The processes governing quantum mechanics are ideal sources of randomness, offering the highest cryptographic protection. This represents a major milestone for quantum computing that will reshape commercial technology and cybersecurity. The time when quantum computing was years away from having societal and business impact is now over. Colorado isn't just succeeding in one advanced industry - we're thriving in FOUR: Cleantech, Life Sciences, Aerospace, and Quantum Computing. Thanks to Mike Freeman and Innosphere for sharing this!
Many regions in the U.S. would consider themselves lucky to have one thriving advanced industry… Colorado has four. The state is leading across the U.S. in Cleantech, Life Sciences, Aerospace, and Quantum Computing. As a state, we have a major opportunity to advance our local economy through these four industry verticals - but that comes with some major challenges. Colorado has a high concentration of capital, employment, and innovation in all four sectors, but supporting the regional development of four highly distinct industries at once requires a clear, strategic approach. At Innosphere’s CO-WY Engine, we created a 4-step approach to regional ecosystem building that’s helping us advance these 4 distinct industries in Colorado and Wyoming: ✔ Connect - Link industry, academia, and policymakers to drive collaboration ✔ Orient - Identify key players, gaps, and opportunities ✔ Activate - Accelerate industry growth through funding and workforce development ✔ Integrate - Find ways for industries to work together wherever it makes sense Each of Colorado’s four industries is at a different stage of growth, so our approach isn’t one-size-fits-all: Some need stronger networks to build connections, others require funding to scale, and some face workforce shortages that demand targeted talent pipelines. Our approach ensures that each industry gets the right kind of support at the right time Supporting four thriving industries is a big responsibility, but it’s also an incredible advantage. By taking a proactive, strategic approach, Colorado can turn this complex dynamic into a defining strength for the region. Huge thanks to Francie Genz and Ryan Donahue for conceptualizing this process!

Great read from Paul Fain on how the Mountain West is becoming a global epicenter for quantum technology. What makes this effort unique is its AI-powered approach to workforce development. Zal.ai is creating a platform that allows education providers to quickly align curricula with employer needs, building pathways that can evolve as rapidly as the industry itself. As Helen Young Hayes of ActivateWork notes: "We're building a demand-based, output-oriented system that can really be responsive to the needs of industry." This model of industry-education collaboration will transform how we prepare workers for emerging technologies.
