About us
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, SWIFT quarterbacks Texas’ space workforce training ecosystem—connecting high schools, community colleges, universities, and industry to eliminate duplication, maximize resources, and unleash untapped talent. At SWIFT, we don’t just build rockets; we build connections. The booming commercial space market is fueling unprecedented demand for a skilled workforce to fill a variety of high-paying jobs throughout Texas. Great progress has been made to inspire young Texans through STEM pathways and engaging rocketry courses, while universities like UT and TAMU are leading the way with advanced engineering programs. Yet, there remains a critical gap in accessible aerospace workforce training programs at the community college level. SWIFT is bridging that gap, creating multiple entry points for Texans of all backgrounds. By scaffolding skills and upskilling workers from other industries, we’re ensuring more people can take part in the thriving space economy. SWIFT unites rocket designers and builders, fostering seamless collaboration across educational and technical programs. Through shared testing platforms and hands-on experience in liquid rocket hardware, we give students the opportunity to dream, build, and launch. SWIFT: Build. Test. Fly. By emphasizing hands-on design, fabrication, and testing of liquid rocket hardware, we ensure that graduates possess practical skills that meet the immediate needs of the defense and aerospace sectors. We then streamline the process for organizations to access and onboard these exceptionally qualified individuals.

One of our very own Joseph Kopser, co-founder of SWIFT, got to meeting NASA Astronaut and Moonwalker, Charlie Duke, at the Space Center Houston, at Space Walk II hosted by Capital Factory. Follow Space Workforce Incubator for Texas (SWIFT) and Capital Factory to learn more about how you can participate in the growing space workforce in Texas.
Meet your hero moment-- Charlie Duke spent 11 days on Apollo 16 to walk on the Moon. I only needed 6 hours to/from Houston to meet him at Space Walk II. I went full NASA nerd and could not stop smiling and thanking him for all his did for Apollo 11, 13, and 16. Charlie is one of only twelve humans to walk on the Moon-- and he drove an EV there as well! Hosted at the Space Center Houston it was a night of celebrating all the different ways Texas is building the future of space. 🚀 Just as inspiring: catching up with Sarah "Sassie" Duggleby”, CEO and co-founder of Venus Aerospace, who’s building the future of hypersonic propulsion and making "anywhere on Earth in one hour" more than just a dream. In addition to serving on the Texas Space Commission, her team just won a grant from TSC to continue their work! As a bona fide space nerd and co-founder of Space Workforce Incubator for Texas (SWIFT), I was like a kid in the candy shop all evening. The evening spotlighted how Texas is fast becoming a gravity well for aerospace innovation. Some of the highlights: - Dr. Haskell Beckham from Columbia Sportswear Company on outfitting lunar landers - John Dow from Nokia Bell Labs on the future of space communication - And most of all, thanks to Wogbe (wo-bee) Ofori or WRX COMPANIES and Bryan Chambers of Capital Factory for hosting the whole event and framing the night with vision and purpose And let’s not forget Orbit & Brew—a packed tech showcase with companies like: Firefly Aerospace Interstellar Lab Raven Space Systems Intuitive Machines (Great seeing Astronaut Jack Fischer as well!) Rhodium Scientific FluxWorks …and many more redefining what’s possible in space and on Earth. Special thanks to the sponsors and partners who made this unforgettable night possible: Capital Factory, Columbia Sportswear, Nokia Bell Labs, Intuitive Machines, and the incredible startups who are literally building our future. Texas isn’t just participating in the space race—we’re helping shape its trajectory. 🚀 In addition to trying to hold up the moon, I also shared a photo from July 1999 when we took our girls to experience the "zero gravity" of Space Shuttle. #SpaceWalk #CharlieDuke #VenusAerospace #TexasSpace #CapitalFactory #AerospaceInnovation #SpaceTech #DualUseTech #NewSpace #Houston #MoonMission

🌌 Is This the First Whiff of Alien Life? 🧪 Exciting news breaking today: astronomers have detected signatures of life—specifically dimethyl sulfide (DMS)—in the atmosphere of exoplanet K2-18b (conceptual rendering below), a planet 2.6X the Earth's diameter located in the constellation Leo some 120 light-years away. On Earth, DMS is only produced by microbial life. This is not confirmation of alien organisms, but it's the strongest clue we’ve ever had. K2-18b sits in the "Goldilocks zone" of its star—where conditions might allow liquid water to exist—and it's now part of a growing list of planets that could host life. But here's what really blew my mind 😯 : 💫 Astronomers estimate there may be 100 billion habitable planets in our galaxy alone. Multiply that across the 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe… and you get a number so large it’s nearly unfathomable. To put it into perspective: There are more potentially habitable planets in the universe than tablespoons of water in all of Earth's oceans. 🌊 Let that sink in. We are standing at the edge of a cosmic revelation—and the search for life beyond Earth is just heating up. #K218b #Astrobiology #SpaceExploration #JWST #Exoplanets #Curiosity #STEM #ScienceCommunication

SWIFT hits the Tall City. Last week, SWIFT joined the Texas Space Alliance for an incredible trip to Midland, TX—a city with big skies, bold vision, and a growing place in the future of aerospace. We toured the Midland International Air & Space Port, stood alongside a spaceplane, explored a historic spacesuit development facility, and witnessed firsthand the groundwork that’s setting the stage for the next generation of space innovation. In these photos: Dr. Leon Vanstone and Geoff Tudor of SWIFT, Texas Space Force Association's Eric McManus of TSA and Brent Kaiser of New Space Hub, and the one and only Lockheed Jr., carrying forward a legacy of aerospace excellence with vision and clarity. Special thanks to the Midland Development Corporation, Midland City Council, and Councilman Brian Stubbs for their generosity and support. From the insights of Lockheed Jr. to the leadership of the Texas Space Commission, it’s clear: when we bring this kind of energy together, Texas doesn’t just participate in the space economy—we lead it. Go Texas. A win for Midland is a win for us all. #SWIFT #TexasSpaceAlliance #TexasSpaceCommission #MidlandTX #SpacePlane #ASTSpaceMobile #Spacesuits #LockheedLegacy #SpaceEconomy #AerospaceRising #GoTexas Joseph Kopser, Harvin Moore, Sandy Barker, Heather Wagner Reed

Check out this exciting piece about space industry development in surrounding counties from this week's Austin Business Journal where SWIFT co-founders Geoff Tudor and Dr. Leon Vanstone were mentioned 🚀 ⬇️ "On the heels of Cedar Park-based Firefly Aerospace Inc. successfully putting a lunar lander on the Moon, counties adjacent to Austin are taking a step to grow the Central Texas space industry. The Williamson County Commissioners Court on March 11 unanimously approved the creation and bylaws of the Central Texas Spaceport Development Corp., an entity being formed in partnership with Burnet County." "Williamson and Burnet counties aren't alone in the region in seeing big potential in the space sector. For instance, Austin-based serial entrepreneurs Geoff Tudor and Leon Vanstone have launched a nonprofit that aims to make Texas a global aerospace hub and build a pipeline of aerospace talent to fill a growing number of roles in the industry." https://lnkd.in/gmeat3Nr Joseph Kopser Harvin Moore Sandy Barker Heather Wagner Reed
