Formed as Southwestern Gas and Electric Company in June 1912, AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) is 104 years old. SWEPCO values its most cherished assets – its customers and its employees. When the company was first formed, it had 125 employees and served only three communities – Shreveport, Bossier City and Texarkana – with a combined population of 42,000. Today, SWEPCO serves over 200 communities on its lines, representing a diverse 33,000-square mile service area of northern and central La., east and north Texas, and western Arkansas with a population of two million. There are 1,640 company employees supplying electricity to over 520,000 customers over 5,000 miles of transmission lines and about 25,500 miles of distribution power lines.

The American Electric Power Foundation, at SWEPCO's request, has awarded $38,500 to WINDRIDGE THERAPEUTIC EQUESTRIAN CENTER OF EAST TEXAS INC! This funding will provide rider scholarships for individuals with special needs and veterans, enhancing access to the transformative power of therapeutic horsemanship. 🐴💙 Mark Robinson, SWEPCO External Affairs Manager, shared, "We are thrilled to support Windridge in their endeavor to provide scholarships for individuals who have served our country and those with special needs. This grant represents our commitment to enhancing community well-being." Founded in 1988 by Margo Dewkett, Windridge has been a beacon of hope for children and adults with disabilities for over three decades. Under Margo's leadership, Windridge became the first center in Texas to design and build a facility specifically for therapeutic horsemanship, a model now adopted nationwide. As president of the auxiliary, Lindsay has dedicated herself to supporting veterans through various fundraisers and community activities. “Lindsay's unwavering dedication to our veterans and her community is truly inspiring,” said SWEPCO and COO Brett Mattison. “We are proud to recognize her as SWEPCO's Volunteer of the Year, and her impact will be felt for years to come." In addition to Lindsay, we honored Becky Whitenack with the Community Impact Award for her extensive work with 15 different nonprofits in 2024. We also want to shine a light on the incredible contributions of nine other honorees who are making a difference in their communities: 1.
