About us
In the early 1970s, four African American women in Peekskill, New York came together to address the lack of affordable, quality health care in their community. With money from a small federal grant, the first Sun River Health site was opened in 1975. That first health center has since grown to become an FQHC (federally qualified health center) system with over 40 locations, serving more than 250,000 patients throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island. Our exceptional primary care practitioners, specialists, and support staff have made us a destination for affordable, high-quality care. In December 2018, Brightpoint Health, an FQHC network offering integrated medical, behavioral, and social support services in New York City, merged with Hudson River Health Care. Together with our subsidiary organizations, we became Sun River Health in December 2020.

🧠 It's National Stress Awareness Month. Community Health Centers (CHCs) are leading the way in providing essential mental health services and support through holistic wellness programs to the 32.5 million Americans they serve each year. Chronic stress can harm our mental and physical health—but CHCs like Sun River Health (NY) and La Clinica del Pueblo (DC) are stepping up. 💪🏽 ✨ Sun River Health offers mental health care, support groups, and holistic wellness programs. ✨ La Clínica del Pueblo provides bilingual therapy, telemental health, group counseling for stress management—such as "Mi Familia"—as well as a substance use treatment program, "Volviendo a Vivir." In our latest blog, NACHC’s Bailey Spates, Project Manager of the Vital Conditions Framework, explores how health centers can address the root causes of stress to transform lives and strengthen communities. https://lnkd.in/eEj4wQug #ValueCHCs #StressAwarenessMonth #Wellness

Thank you, Skylar Harrington for 3 years of dedication to the communities we serve. Best wishes to you in all your endeavors from your Sun River Health family!
After more than 3 years, the time has come for me to take the next step in my professional journey. Leaving Sun River Health is bittersweet, but working alongside such dedicated and passionate individuals has been a rewarding experience that I feel lucky to take into the next chapter. I am incredibly grateful for the experience and growth from my role with Sun River. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work for an organization that does so much to support patients and the community. Most notably, it was an honor to meet the late founding mother, Rev. Jeannette J. Phillips, and hear firsthand the health center's origin story during my time as an executive fellow a few years back. Thank you to my colleagues and exceptional leadership whom I've had the pleasure of working with along the way, and thank you to Tia Lee, LMHC, NCC, and the Manhattan Health Home team for making my last day in the office so special! I look forward to staying connected and seeing this organization's continued growth and success. So excited for the next adventure!

For the first time ever, health care was in the spotlight as a crucial player in climate action at Climate Group’s #ClimateWeekNYC🌎 last week, and I had a blast attending with colleagues on behalf of Practice Greenhealth and Health Care Without Harm. Here were some of my favorite moments: 💡Deep learning at NYU Langone Health CIEH's Plastics and Human Health Symposium about plastic production and climate, the impacts of plastics on human health and environmental justice, and action through the Global Plastics Treaty. 🗣️ A powerful call to action for climate justice through building health equity and community resilience during ecoAmerica's Climate and Health Equity in Action session at Sun River Health, with attention to the role of community-health-centers in meeting this vision. 🩺 Reflection on the relationship between climate and health and the role of the health care sector in tackling the climate crisis in accordance with its healing mission at The New York Academy of Medicine and Yale School of Public Health's inaugural Health Systems Implementing Climate Action. My main takeaways? ➡️ The changing climate is hurting our health, and it does not hurt us all equally. Health care sits at the frontlines of this crisis. Yet, the U.S. health care system is responsible for 8.5% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. ➡️ Interconnected problems require interconnected solutions. Health care must defer to community and incorporate local, place-based knowledge in its ideation and implementation of solutions. ➡️ Health care composes 17% of the U.S. economy. In collaboration with public health and the private sector, health care can lead the way to a sustainable, low-carbon, resilient economy and to equitable community health, wealth, and climate resilience. It was wonderful to see health care represented and to witness Practice Greenhealth partners leading in this space. 🏥✨ 🌎 🔗 Learn more about Health Care Without Harm's Climate and Health program and how to get involved: https://lnkd.in/eUzC6vnb
