Sundt's I-10 widening project with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in El Paso celebrated a major milestone last month. The team coordinated a successful traffic switch back onto the main highway, ensuring a smooth transition for commuters and businesses alike, and allowing for an accelerated timeline and less impact on the public. In April, the team will oversee two additional traffic switches and self-perform demolition of another bridge—three more steps towards project completion, which is slated for later this year. Phase one of the $174 million project is transforming 7.5 miles of I-10, with self-perform concrete pavement replacing existing asphalt, additional lanes in each direction, a new underpass at Los Mochis, allowing traffic to go underneath I-10 from North Desert onto South Desert. The result? Reduced congestion and improved safety from the New Mexico/Texas state line through downtown El Paso. Learn more: https://bit.ly/43Hqpu5

With nearly a century-old dam infrastructure at Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid reaching the end of its lifespan, residents and local agencies came together to secure vital improvements. Working alongside GBRA and local WCIDs, the Sundt team is making major progress: from completing foundation work and installing new cofferdams to preparing for the installation of massive crest gates. Once finished, the dams will restore hydroelectric generation, return lake levels and boost flood resilience.

We were thrilled to celebrate the dedication and grand opening of the The University of Texas at El Paso's (UTEP) Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace Center. UTEP’s newest state-of-the-art facility will help the university continue to reshape the future of research, education and innovation on campus. This cutting-edge center brings together research groups from across UTEP and expands hands-on opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students, helping train 600+ students annually in their fields. It also supports the university's undergraduate degree in aerospace and aeronautical engineering. We were honored to partner with UTEP and Treanor to bring this project to life. Sundt self-performed the concrete work, including the building's drilled piers foundation and pan deck systems; this rigid design accommodates the vibrations generated during testing in laboratories. We loved connecting with students at Tampa Bay's Florida Construction Career Days, sharing why a career in the industry is so fulfilling! At the Sundt booth, students explored water and wastewater through an engaging presentation, including a virtual tour of Sundt's award-winning Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant in Mesa, Arizona, completed in 2019. Throughout the session, we shared Sundt’s story, walked through how treatment plants work and highlighted the wide range of career opportunities in construction—from hands-on craft roles to admin and support positions. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Sundt booth to connect with Jamie Paraison, Justine Gardner and Dale Purcell!
