As we approach the end of #WomensHistoryMonth, we want to recognize powerful PTSD research led by our Director of Inclusive Behavioral Health Advancement, Dr. Brittany Hall-Clark! ✨ Dr. Hall-Clark and her team conducted a large systematic review to determine how PTSD symptoms show up differently across different racial and ethnic groups. Key Takeaways: ❗️ Trauma exposure is complex and different cultural groups tend to experience different types of traumatic experience (e.g., political violence vs. neighborhood violence) ❗️ Cultural variations in PTSD symptom expression are real, and clinicians should be mindful of differences in expressive language when assessing for and treating PTSD ❗️ Socioeconomic status and prior traumatic experience are important treatment considerations because they can impact access to helpful resources To provide truly effective and inclusive PTSD treatment, we must understand and respect cultural differences in our communities.
