We’re honored to work with the Design Trust for Public Space and to be part of the journey of this transformational project.
Ten years ago, artists/activist/lawyer @Jane Greengold was walking by a NYCHA community and wondered why those metal fences were there, limiting residents' ability to use their open space. That question started a movement. For that time we've been working with NYCHA and their communities to make quality, resident-guided open space a reality for everyone of the 600,000 residents. Today, we cut the fence at the Lilian Wald Houses, marking the beginning of construction on our capital project, a journey marked by overcoming significant challenges and even more significant victories. Video below! Along the way, we leveraged this idea with partners on a series of other initiatives, where open space is being brought to other communities, including the Green Space Connections initiative led by the Public Housing Community Fund and a nationwide effort co-led by Trust for Public Land. We also released a resident toolkit, (https://lnkd.in/ePfBhw8P) to give power to those who will use these spaces. Thank you to all of the partners who've made this work possible.
