South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) provides free legal services in a wide variety of civil legal matters to low income residents of South Carolina. SCLS is a non-profit corporation funded by grants from the federally funded Legal Services Corporation, the South Carolina Bar Foundation, the South Carolina Bar, local United Ways, state court filing fees, and other federal, state, and local sources. The mission of SCLS is to provide civil legal services to protect the rights and represent the interests of low income South Carolinians. SCLS serves residents of all areas of the state with field offices located throughout South Carolina.

The South Carolina Bar Pro Bono Program and South Carolina Legal Services hosted a Wills Clinic on March 28 in Georgetown County, assisting 19 Habitat for Humanity for Georgetown County homeowners with estate planning. Volunteer attorneys Katlin Floyd, Jon Ozolins, Bess Lochocki, Joel Hynes, Glenn Ohanesian, Nate Fata, Natasha Hanna, Fay Johnson and Brenda Gorski helped families protect their homes and assets. Next week is #DriverSuspensionEligibilityWeek in South Carolina. If you have a qualifying reason, you may be eligible to have your suspension period reduced or cleared. Qualifying reasons generally include: -Driving under suspension, with the exception of alcohol or drug-related convictions -Excessive points for someone under the age of 18 -Operating or allowing someone else to operate an uninsured vehicle -Operating an uninsured vehicle that the driver did not own -Operating an unlicensed taxi If eligible, you will receive a letter from the SCDMV, so it’s important that your address is current. You may change your address online at www.scdmvonline.com, in person at your local branch, or by mail.
