One measure of an organization’s staying power: it has been around longer than most of its current members have been alive. That’s the case with the Northern Illinois University SHPE chapter, which celebrated its 25th anniversary recently. “[SHPE] becomes a true familia for those of us who are trying to make it through. Having others with similar backgrounds and goals and who would do anything to achieve them was the motivation I needed," says Edgar Sida, a 2003 NIU alum.

Mentoring connections end for various reasons. 💔 It's natural and normal. Sometimes it's simply the end of the committed time. In other cases you find it's just not the right fit. Two of our experienced mentors will talk about how to handle this normal process of closing out a connection, keeping the door open for future connections and moving on. Come hear from Antonia Robles and Carlos Avila about their experience and guidance on how to handle this part of a mentoring connection. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gztjvjgp

We all know the SHPE National Convention is a life-changing event. It’s where career-defining job offers are made, lifelong friendships are built, and dreams become reality—not just for individuals, but for their families and communities as well. Yet, many promising students face financial barriers that prevent them from attending the convention. Without support, these potential STEM leaders miss out on a profound experience and countless opportunities. You can make a difference! Your contribution can help cover registration, travel, accommodations, and meals. The total cost per student is approximately $2,500, but even a partial sponsorship can be transformative. Last year, thanks to generous supporters, over 1,000 students received funding to attend. Supporting a student is more than a donation—it’s an investment in the future of our field. By removing financial barriers, you empower the next generation to engage fully, grow professionally, and carry forward the SHPE mission. You can make your donation here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gWTcTNR2 and choose "Conference Stipend Campaign" from the dropdown menu. Or email partnerships@shpe.org to explore other ways to contribute. Together, we’re building a stronger STEM future. Thank you for being part of it!
