📣 BIG NEWS: LFS and LFPA funding just announced! Yesterday, the USDA announced the next phase of the Local Food for Schools (LFS) Cooperative Agreement Program. Agencies (including Guam and the US Virgin Islands) have until April 30, 2025 to apply. As an individual or organization, you can support this effort by urging your state agency to participate and providing input on program design. 🗓️ NFSN is hosting an LFS huddle this coming Monday, Dec 16 at 2pm EST, which will feature an ECE breakout room hosted by ASPHN. Register here to join us: https://lnkd.in/eW2_8vrb Together, we can leverage this federal funding to support our kids, farms, and communities, and make a real impact for historically underserved local farmers, fishers, and ranchers.

We are excited to work with Newton County Education Foundation and Newton County Schools to launch our #Veggie Ready Program with the Pre K and Kindergarten students in 2025!

What do parents argue about most with their young kiddos? Researchers report: Bedtime delays, obeying instructions..... and you guessed it... PICKY EATING! We've been busy rolling out our #VeggieReady program, which supports young eaters as they learn how to try and love vegetables (and bonus: how to MAKE veggie based snacks!) And the best part about it is when parents ask: HOW DID YOU GET MY KIDS TO EAT KALE?! It takes a village and we are so pumped to be a part of moving the needle on F&V consumption. Looking forward to rolling out #VeggieReady with new partners this Spring at Marietta City Schools (Cindy Kanarek Culver! and Eat Real Certified, Newton County Schools, and few more exciting places! More soon!

This is a fascinating study that researched 2,400 sets of twins. What did they find? Picky eating is a genetic trait. What does that mean for parents? 1. STOP feeling guilty! 2. Don't give up! "Early detection and intervention for food fussiness in toddlerhood may reduce the expression of this behavior across development." #foodeducation #nutriitoneducation #earlyintervention #exposure #fruitsandveggies

There are around 7 million 4 & 5 year olds in the U.S. 9 out of 10 of them aren't eating the recommended amount of veggies. What if we had a program that got these kids "Veggie Ready" before 1st grade? 🥕 🥕 🥕We are thrilled to launch our Veggie Ready program in our home state of Georgia.. and expanding soon to Alabama, Oklahoma & Louisiana! We know kids will love veggies when they have an opportunity to prepare & try them at school. Partnerships include Bright From The Start: Georgia Dept of Early Care and Learning, Georgia Partnership for Inclusive Innovation (PIN), Eat Real Certified, Newton County Education Foundation, USDA #FarmtoSchool , and more! 🥕 🥕 🥕 🥕 🥕 Applications for our first round close Friday August 9. More to openings soon! If you are interested in how to bring this program to your community, message us!
