  • Parapets do more than frame a building’s aesthetic—they are key to maintaining continuity across critical control layers. Proper detailing ensures: Water Control: Managed by the roof membrane and cladding, with a secondary layer often placed behind exterior insulation. Air Control: Best achieved at the roof deck level or through a carefully detailed roof membrane. Thermal Control: Connecting roof and wall insulation reduces thermal bridging and condensation risks. Vapor Control: Aligned with air control based on climate, construction methods, and building use. Are your parapets detailed for performance? How does your project address parapet protection? Did you know that air barriers at the roof deck can significantly improve wind resistance? Recent research by the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) found that incorporating an air barrier can increase wind uplift resistance by 25% to 50%—a game-changer for long-term roof performance. By preventing internal air pressure from reaching the underside of the membrane, air barriers help reduce the forces trying to lift the roof off a building. Testing showed that polyethylene and self-adhered films reduced air intrusion by 99.7%! At Siplast, we understand air barriers' critical role in creating durable, high-performance roofing systems. Learn more, from one of our Siplast experts, James R Kirby, about how they enhance wind resistance and contribute to a stronger roofing system. http://spr.ly/6047Lth6f. #airbarriers #wind #roofing #Siplast
