We are here to celebrate our community, and everything our community loves. For the last 70 years, one of those loves has been the Eugene Emeralds! https://lnkd.in/g3ghfQfz
Part of being a community museum is celebrating our community "landmarks". The Eugene Emeralds are celebrating 70 years in Eugene and we are helping them mark the occasion with an exhibit here at SMJ House. We have old photos, memorabilia and lots of fun trivia for baseball fans or just people who like old stuff!
In February, SMJ joined a growing list of businesses who are putting sustainability and our future first by becoming BRING Rethink Certified! It was an easy (and necessary) lift! We hope you will follow our example. https://lnkd.in/gKKCmeJU
In 2017, we launched our very first summer camp for youth. Victorian Finishing School creates as many memories for us as does with the students. This year, we are launching the very first Advanced Finishing School. Registration for both camps are open now! https://lnkd.in/gvZKJjB5
Check in on your museum professional friends. The last 24 hours have been a roller coaster. They are not okay. After that, tell your representatives how important your museums/cultural centers are to your life. Tell them OFTEN! https://lnkd.in/gkYqBUm3
There is a lot of talk about moving social media accounts to new, less morally questionable platforms, but what happens to your digital footprint (read: archive) from the digitally born materials you have on the existing platforms. Are you going to download them all? Where is all of it stored? Smaller institutions like SMJ have had a harder time moving into digital archiving, especially since we don't have the funds to keep it up after its created. We, like many of our colleagues, are dependent on the existing platforms and hope that they don't go under or get hacked. https://lnkd.in/gQV2WUi3
Museums are always looking for ways to do things: - Reach out to the community - Be more inclusive/welcoming We are grateful for organizations like Lane County Culturally Coalition for helping us get a little closer to making these things possible. Shelton McMurphey Johnson House Marketing for SMJ House | $2,500 To ensure the museum’s continued growth and success, SMJ House is building a Communication Plan to broaden the museum’s audience, expanding the donor base and external fundraising capacity. Grant funds will be used to improve accessibility by offering interpretive materials and advertising in Spanish. https://lnkd.in/ghGiyaWK
We want to know how we can support and engage you in 2025 and beyond. Will you please share your thoughts by taking our survey? Why this survey? We care deeply about making the history of Eugene and the Victorian Era we share with you, our community, and our visitors, meaningful. But we need your help. We want to better understand our visitors' different needs and values so we can best serve you. Museums (like ours!) strive to encourage and expand learning while also addressing the challenges facing our society, and we need to hear your thoughts. To do this, we are participating in a national survey of museum-goers, sponsored by the American Alliance of Museums. This survey will provide us with data from our visitors, as well as from visitors to museums nationwide, helping us be more effective in the coming months and in the communities we serve. The survey only takes about 9 minutes to complete, but in those 9 minutes you will help our team make better decisions for our future. https://lnkd.in/ghCkGbby
