🎿❄️ What a season! As we wrap up the 2024/2025 winter season at Schuss Mountain, Shanty Creek Resort, we can’t help but reflect on all the incredible memories made on and off the slopes. From bluebird days to powder mornings and everything in between — this season has been one to remember! 🌨️⛷️ But none of this would be possible without the amazing people behind the scenes and on the front lines who make the magic happen every single day. It's The End of an Era at Schuss Mountain! After 54 incredible winters in the ski industry, Rick VanTongeren and Christine VanTongeren are skiing into retirement at the end of the season — and what a legacy they leave behind! These two have done it all — from crack-of-dawn course setting to mentoring countless young skiers under the night lights. They’ve been fixtures in the Michigan ski industry for decades at Schuss Mountain, Mt. Holiday, and Cannonsburg ski areas. Their impact on the sport is best highlighted by Rick’s induction into the Michigan Ski Coaches Hall of Fame, with achievements including 11 conference titles, 2 regional titles, the 1996 state championship, and being named five-time Regional Coach of the Year, Michigan Coach of the Year, and 1999 U.S. Ski Coach of the Year. (Wow!) The VanTongerens have shaped generations of Michigan skiers, spreading their love of the sport to everyone they meet. We've been so fortunate to have them call Shanty Creek home for so long. To celebrate Rick and Chris, we had a special cake at Ivan's over Irish Weekend — a sweet send-off for two incredible people. Please join us in thanking the VanTongeren's for their many years of service and congratulating them on this next chapter in their life! We will miss them!

As we head into our final week of the ski season, we want to take a moment to celebrate and thank our incredible Lift Operations team for everything they have done to make winter 2024/25 a success! Lift Operations are first, and foremost about SAFETY! Taking care of our guests is no small task—it means working outside in the snow, staying focused while children and people of all skiing/snowboarding ability board the lift, and knowing what to be done in an emergency. Our Lift Operations Team helped create an amazing experience for our guests and truly brought the mountain to life this season! It was fantastic to see so many kids and loved ones enjoying the festivities, from FREE tubing and Snowglide rides to the delicious spread of hot dogs, brats, and burgers.
