There is more to APIs than CAMARA/Open Gateway GSMA APIs. I talked with Andy Tiller at TM Forum about a different set of telco APIs, which have been around and widely adopted for some time and, among other things, are helping service providers to move towards autonomous networks: https://lnkd.in/erxJVvyX #API GSMA CAMARA Project #ODA #autonomousnetworks #WiFi #5G #6G

In telecoms, we got used to stunning growth rates in adoption, performance, coverage, revenues, investment. It was awesome to be part of it, but this is not a sustainable model in the long term. So we have grown up into a more mature industry, which has some advantages, but also much more contained growth rates. No amount of technology can fix that. It is a macroeconomic trend over which we cannot exert too much control. How do we learn to survive and succeed in this new environment? I talked with Joel Brand at Marvell Technology about this; it was a refreshing and inspiring discussion. I would say it was not the most usual discussion you hear on monetization or network evolution, and at the same time, it brims with a positive and yet realistic view of what's next: https://lnkd.in/eKTY8A56 Senza Fili #SparringPartners @5G @4G @6G @AI @RAN @networkevolution @monetization @CAGR

My latest Deep Dive report is out! It is on telco APIs and how they are not only (or possibly primarily) a revenue source but, more importantly, a way for operators to work closely with app developers and enterprises to extract more value from their networks and to connect more effectively to the wider ecosystem. In addition to my views on the topic, you can hear from Ron Porter and Enri-K Salazar at Amdocs, Sameh Yamany at VIAVI Solutions, Harpreet G. at Shabodi, Leonardo Siqueira at TIM Brasil, Markus Kümmerle at Deutsche Telekom and CAMARA Project, and Daryl Schoolar at Recon Analytics. How can we best use AI and GenAI in automation in today's networks? What benefits could we realistically expect? How can we make AI and GenAI effective, reliable and secure? Watch, read or listen to my conversation with Blake Hlavaty at Fujitsu Network Communications to hear from someone who has been working on this for quite some time and shared his insight and experience from collaborating with ecosystem partners and operators: https://lnkd.in/ezisHXe9 #automation #5G #openRAN #ORAN #cloud #virtualization #disaggregation #SparringPartners

What happened at #FYUZ24? Eugina Jordan at Telecom Infra Project and I talked about what we saw and learned this year in Dublin, and give you a behind-the-scenes, non-official view of the event and why we liked it in the latest #SparringPartners podcast. We are midway in our 5G journey. It may not have been as game-changing as many expected, but it did improve connectivity, and it is an impressive new technology. There is ample room for improvement, this much is clear. What can we learn from the beginnings of 5G to continue the innovation? What should we do differently? Azita Arvani, Stanford Sloan Fellow, ex-CEO at Rakuten Symphony North America, and I agree that we should not give up on 5G and wait until 6G arrives. But how aggressive should we be in pushing technological innovation in an affordable way? APIs are building a better bridge between CSPs and enterprises, which will enable CSPs to capitalize on their network data and capability assets and, in turn, enterprises to offer more reliable, secure and attractive services to their customers. It sounds good, but is it going to happen? What do operators need to do to reach out to the enterprise with a business proposition that has value for both? How can the enterprise integrate APIs into their services? Harpreet G. at Shabodi and I will extensively address these questions (and more) in an upcoming Sparring Partners on November 21 and you are invited to join us by registering at: https://lnkd.in/eNViqc_G #API #Camara #SparringPartners #GSMA #OpenGateway #TMF #QoE #QoD #digitaltransfomation #monetization

We all agree that we need automation and AI to drive it to make our networks more efficient and, well, more manageable. But to get there, we need to make sure we have the right foundation -- reliable data, with the required granularity (not too much, not too little; real-time or historical) -- and the right way to integrate automation in the daily life of the networks -- which is where AIOps comes in. In this conversation with Rick Fulwiler at NETSCOUT, we one one step further and talked about how to make sure you get the right foundation and the right operations to get AI-driven automation to work smoothly and effectively. https://lnkd.in/eSFXJvwC #automation #5G #openRAN #ORAN #cloud #virtualization #disaggregation #AI #GenAI #ML #RAN #OpenRAN #SparringPartners #AIOps #SenzaFili

How will AI, ML and GenAI take us from automation to autonomous networks -- and from closed to open networks? What is the role of culture, skills and network operations to accelerate this process? This is the topic of my conversation with Brandon Larson, who is working on the transition to autonomous and open networks at Mavenir, developing new products and listening to operators and partners: https://lnkd.in/gidWFgCA #automation #5G #openRAN #ORAN #cloud #virtualization #disaggregation #Ai #GenAI #ML #RAN #openran #autonomousnetworks #autonomous

AI and GenAI are driving growth in automation in wireless networks, that much is clear. But where will the change happen? Cristina Rodriguez at Intel Corporation has a simple answer: Everywhere. And in our discussion, we go from the core to the RAN, from the end-to-end networks to the chipset to explore how AI and GenAI are transforming and will continue to transform how we deploy and operate networks. https://lnkd.in/gseat8Wr #automation #5G #openRAN #ORAN #cloud #virtualization #disaggregation #AI #GenAI #ML #RAN #OpenRAN #SparringPartners
