  • COMMUNICATORS MEETING: This past week, the Seminole County Office of Communications met with Public Information Officers (PIOs) across the County to discuss local strategic communication efforts. In celebration of Earth Month, the meeting featured presentations from the County Environmental Services team to further advance sustainability initiatives, such as recycling and the County’s new Holistic Water Policy.  The event concluded with access to the driving range and golf clubs on Seminole County’s Wekiva Golf Course.   • MARCH VETERAN OF THE MONTH: The Seminole County Board of County Commissioners proudly proclaimed United States Air Force Staff Sergeant Tommy Oliveras as the March Veteran of the Month. A proud Air Force veteran, first enlisting in 1986, he served as an Electronic Warfare Technician in multiple operations, earning prestigious awards like the John Levitow Award, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award with two oak-leaf clusters and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars, among 13 other medals and ribbons. Since 1994, Staff Sergeant Tommy Oliveras has called Seminole County home and has been a dedicated Seminole County employee since 2000. Now serving as the Telecommunications Division Manager in the Office of Emergency Management, he also holds key leadership roles as Vice Chairman of the Regional Domestic Security Task Force V (RDSTF-V) and Chairman of the Orlando Urban Area Security Initiative.   • SR 426/CR 419 RIBBON-CUTTING: Today, Seminole County, in partnership with FDOT Central Florida and the CITY OF OVIEDO, celebrated the completion of Phase 2 of the SR 426/CR 419 Widening Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Funded in part by the Penny Sales Tax, this milestone marks a decades-long effort to enhance the corridor, improving safety and efficiency for our growing community. Looking ahead, Phase 3 of the project is currently in the design procurement phase, with design set to begin in spring 2025. This next phase will widen CR 419 from two to four lanes, extending from Avenue B to Lockwood Boulevard. This is a significant step toward strengthening mobility and infrastructure in Seminole County, ensuring continued improvements for residents and businesses alike.

  • WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH: The Seminole County Board of County Commissioners recognizes March as Women's History Month, celebrating the vital role of women in history in Seminole County and our nation. Women leaders from across Seminole County joined the BCC for a proclamation reading at the last public meeting. Their achievements and leadership continue to shape our community, inspiring future generations.

  • OLD-GROWTH FOREST NETWORK: Today, Seminole County celebrated Spring Hammock Preserve's addition to the Old-Growth Forest Network, the only national network of protected, old-growth, native forests in the U.S. Spring Hammock Preserve, full of ancient cypress and oak trees, is the first and only forest in Central Florida to be recognized by the Old-Growth Forest Network. Visitors can view "Lady Liberty," a 2,000-year-old cypress tree, at the Preserve's Big Tree Park in Longwood. Seminole County Commissioners, Parks and Recreation staff, and volunteers gathered for the recognition, highlighting the County's longstanding commitment to natural resource preservation for future generations.
