Take a deep-dive into an adaptive load-shedding scheme that keeps critical processes online and ensures safe operation at a chemical plant. This technical paper describes: ▪️ An adaptive algorithm that helps ensure stability in islanded and non-islanded operation. ▪️ An IEC 61850 communications architecture that coordinates protection in distributed load and generation sites. ▪️ Load balancing contingencies that prevent unnecessary process outages and ensure safe shutdown of toxic gas processes. ▪️ The commissioning process and subsequent load-shedding operations. What role does a Converged Industrial Edge, or CIE, play in critical infrastructure networking? Modern challenges are placing growing expectations on the performance of critical infrastructure networks. These issues impact both sides of the IT and OT divide, driving a need for better cybersecurity, more automation, and more information exchange between networked devices. CIE is a programmable, zero-trust network architecture solution that not only allows for secure information exchange between IT and OT networks, but also preserves the integrity of each domain’s performance requirements. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth at DISTRIBUTECH! We look forward to connecting again next year at #DTECH26.
I had a great time at DISTRIBUTECH 2025, where the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) team made the most of our new 40’ x 40’ exhibit space which features a presentation area, meeting space for customers, and eight stations showcasing our technology—and lots of whiteboards! More than 550 attendees stopped by to check out our solutions for Distribution, IEC 61850, Data Streaming, Grid Modernization, Operations Software, Cybersecurity, Power Management, Transmission. Kudos to Tanushri Doshi, SEL Engineering Manager and Amy Bitzer, ComEd Sr. Electrical Engineer, who presented a technical paper on the SEL and SDG&E patented falling conductor protection (FCP) solution. It was also awesome to see so many of our blue boxes showcased in other exhibits! Thank you to the SEL team and everyone who stopped by our exhibit!

We recently welcomed our first customer from Cameroon, bringing our global reach to 173 countries! Thank you to all our customers for your continued trust and partnership. Here's to many more milestones together. #CustomerCommitment #GlobalReach
Last week, our Sales & Customer Service Team shared an exciting update: we welcomed our first customer from Cameroon, bringing our tally to 173 countries! As I was thinking about writing a post about this milestone, I recalled a story from the early days of our company when Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) was staffed by Ed Schweitzer and a small team of people. Mark Weber, one of the first employees Ed hired and who still works in our R&D Division, received a call from an unhappy customer who was experiencing a problem with an SEL relay. Unsure of how to handle the situation, Mark put the customer on hold and asked Ed for guidance. Ed's response was simple: “It’s not his problem. It’s our problem. If he wants a new relay shipped next day air, let’s get one built and ship it to him.” When Mark asked, “What should we charge? He wants to know how much it’s going to cost him,” Ed replied, “We’re not charging him anything. It’s our problem. No questions asked.” I love this story because it so clearly illustrates our commitment to our customers from the very beginning. We understand that they are under no obligation to purchase products from SEL ever again. Every day, we need to earn their business. Our customers have important work to do, and all of us at SEL are privileged and empowered to help them do it. And when we earn a new customer—we celebrate it! #CustomerService #Engineering #Manufacturing #CommitmentToExcellence

It’s an underappreciated fact that the power grid in over half the North American landmass is supported by small utility teams. Learn how one public utility created more value for their customers by modernizing their remote terminal units while avoiding costly and time-consuming wiring replacements. https://lnkd.in/gi5GMRQ6 #RTAC #SCADA #Automation #SystemProtection
