Ever joined a meeting and your webcam just refuses to work? It worked yesterday, but today—nothing. The truth is, webcam issues are almost always caused by a few common problems. One of the biggest culprits? Software conflicts. If Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet are open at the same time, they’ll fight for camera access. Closing other apps before joining a call usually fixes it. Privacy settings can also block access, especially after an update. On Windows, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure your apps have permission. On Mac, check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and enable access. If you’re using an external webcam, a loose or faulty USB port might be the issue. Try unplugging and reconnecting it—or better yet, switch to a different port. If the problem started recently, your drivers may be outdated or missing. On Windows, open Device Manager → Imaging Devices → Update Driver. On Mac, updates happen automatically, but make sure you’re running the latest macOS version. And yes, sometimes a Windows update itself breaks camera functionality. If your webcam stopped working after an update, rolling back the driver might help (Device Manager → Imaging Devices → Properties → Roll Back Driver). Before an important call, always test your camera in the Windows Camera app or Mac’s Photo Booth. And if none of this works—restart your computer. It fixes 90% of webcam problems. Still stuck? This MLK weekend, I had the privilege of supporting the LAS AMERICAS ASPIRA ACADEMY Wolves as they competed in the “CHASE THE DREAM” MLK Invitational at the Chase 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Watching these young athletes step onto the court, play their hearts out, and go undefeated reminded me of the power of hard work, belief, and determination. A special shoutout to Head Coach Zach Freeman, and Coaches Chris Smith and Ben Barber for the incredible work they do for these kids. Their dedication and leadership inspire the players to grow both on and off the court. Coaches like them are the backbone of youth sports and make a lasting impact in our community.
