Really excited to share the latest Sealed blog post: "Energy Efficiency Needs to Get Real" The energy efficiency industry needs to move past the compliance era and start delivering real negawatts that everyone (particularly utility grid operators) can count on. That will only happen with energy savings measured at the meter and an investment framework that focuses on system value. More than anything, it requires policymakers to treat EE as a real energy resource and the EE industry itself to acknowledge that we need to evolve and "get real".
Load growth driven by AI, onshoring, and electrification is changing what we need from energy efficiency. But here's the catch: most efficiency programs are still designed for ✅ compliance, not for the 🎯 precision and 📈 performance required to support grid reliability or resource adequacy. The good news? We can manage this load growth if we develop smart policies that properly value energy efficiency and other demand-side solutions. Ensuring that energy efficiency is a real, measurable resource is the way forward — for 💵 affordability, 🔌 grid reliability, and 🌎 competitiveness as electricity growth ramps up in the years to come. https://lnkd.in/dyq2qS-b

Regulators and other policymakers are grappling with new challenges — challenges that demonstrate that the 100-plus-year-old Utility Regulatory Compact no longer makes sense. 🔌 Ratepayers are seeing higher utility bills even as the cost of producing energy is dropping. 📈 Utilities are seeing meaningful limits to their growth. ⚡ And our planet is seeing the effects of too much energy waste driven by outdated policy incentives. The second part of Andy Frank's series diagnoses why the Utility Regulatory Compact needs to change. https://lnkd.in/eRmHemTW

Exciting news for home #energyefficiency in the NY and NJ areas as Sealed is partnering with utility companies New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E), and Rockland Electric Company (RECO) for new measured savings pilot programs. “We’re excited to support these measured savings programs and demonstrate how we can help utilities and states achieve their maximum potential and impact,” said Andy Frank, President and co-founder at Sealed. “By making it easier for contractors to participate, we can help ensure these programs win at the kitchen table—ultimately benefiting homeowners, contractors, and transforming the broader energy efficiency market.” For more information, check out our latest release with the details https://lnkd.in/g9eNQFqK

To reform our energy system, we must travel back in time — over 100 years ago in fact — to understand the (unofficial) Utility Regulatory Compact made between utilities and policymakers. For decades, the arrangement has worked well enough to power our prosperity. But as we enter a new era of clean energy, climate change, and challenges to growth, cracks are appearing in many of the assumptions that drove the formation of the Utility Regulatory Compact. https://lnkd.in/gMxXYMfD

Energy data is paramount to the Inflation Reduction Act Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES) Program, however most State Energy Offices (SEOs) do not have direct access to utility data. Luckily, collecting energy usage data isn’t complicated, and states can put the responsibility for collecting it on market actors like aggregators. By focusing on the data access solutions that exist today, states can get their HOMES Programs up and running quickly. https://lnkd.in/e_8x6bf2
