The draft Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2 is now open for public consultation - and we encourage everyone to participate. The draft standard sets out a science-based, innovative and pragmatic framework that enables more businesses worldwide to join the 3,000 with net-zero targets or which have committed to set them. It is informed by the latest climate science, regulation, and recognized standards and frameworks, as well as feedback from businesses about what they need to achieve the collective ambition of a net-zero future. The feedback we gather from this and other consultations, our expert working groups and pilot testing will all inform changes ahead of the standard’s final approval. The draft standard aims to accelerate corporate decarbonization by: - Tackling barriers to scope 3, or value chain, action – the most commonly cited challenge by businesses - Maintaining focus on emissions reduction while exploring incentives to support scaling of climate finance and carbon removals - Making it easier for companies in emerging economies to set targets - Incentivizing ambition and action through new model to validate and recognize progress against targets We have a limited carbon budget left. Companies must act at pace to accelerate climate action, driving transformation, building investor confidence and unlocking long-term growth. Enabling organizations to take swift climate action by setting ambitious emissions reduction targets.
About us
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. We develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest. The SBTi is incorporated as a charity, with a subsidiary which will host our target validation services. Our partners are CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

We’re excited to announce that over 150 financial institutions worldwide now have validated science-based targets! Since launching the Financial Institutions Near-Term Criteria in 2020, science-based climate action in the finance sector has increased rapidly: 1) 2024 saw a nearly 50% rise in validations compared to 2023. 2) 16 financial institutions used the updated Version 2 of the Financial Institutions Near-Term Criteria to set targets. 3) ING became the first global systemically important bank to have their targets validated. 4) There are now financial institutions with validated targets in 30 countries across all continents. We’re preparing to further enable financial institution target setting through the publication of the SBTi’s first Financial Institutions Net-Zero Standard. This will help financial institutions set near- and long-term net-zero targets across lending, investing, insurance and capital markets, and introduce alignment targets. The finance sector plays a pivotal role in determining which businesses have access to capital and financial services. By setting science-based targets, financial institutions are driving transformative change across the global economy. Help companies in the timber, paper and forestry sector to set science-based targets! We’re calling for experts to contribute to the revision of the timber and wood fiber pathway included in the FLAG Target-Setting Tool. The revision will help companies across the forest and paper products sector - and those reliant on wood-derived products - to set ambitious science-based targets to reduce land-based emissions. There are two ways get involved: 1) Become a technical partner: The technical partner will conduct research, data analysis and resource development for the project. Independent contractors, academic institutions, and consultancy firms with expertise in greenhouse gas accounting, forestry emissions, and climate target-setting are invited to apply for this role. Submit your applications by March 17, 2025. 2) Join the expert working group: We’re also calling for subject matter experts to join the expert working group (EWG) for this project. EWG members will provide technical advice over the project’s duration, helping to ensure the updated pathway is practical and ambitious. Experts are invited to apply no later than April 21, 2025. This is an important opportunity to help shape the future of the forestry industry. By becoming a technical partner or an EWG member, you will help empower businesses with the tools they need to lead the transformation to a sustainable and nature-positive future. Head over to our website to learn more about the timber and wood fiber pathway revision and submit: https://lnkd.in/ee7yydCY #FLAG #SBTi #ScienceBasedTargets #Timber #WoodFiber
