Schuff’s team delivered 896 tons of structural steel, 2 full-flight steel stair systems, detailing, fabrication, and installation from start to finish. Meet Dave P. Wright (aka DPW!), our incredible Director of Preconstruction! With over three decades of industry experience — 25 of those dedicated to Schuff Steel as of this month — Dave is an invaluable asset to our team. What does DPW do at Schuff? Officially, Dave leads our Preconstruction Team during early project pursuits and is deeply involved in project start-up and design coordination, especially when there is an aspect of Design Assist and IPD methodology. Unofficially, Dave thrives on unique and challenging projects that push the boundaries of design, materials, and construction methods. 🏗️ Dave also contributes to industry advancements, serving on the American Institute of Steel Construction's Sustainability Committee and the FastFloor Advisory Panel. His efforts have played a major role in securing Schuff’s status as an AISC Sustainability Partner, promoting environmentally friendly construction practices. He’s also passionate about mentoring the next generation of industry professionals to pass the Steel Torch for the future of structural steel construction. 🔥 What does Dave enjoy most about his job? "Rarely is there a dull moment! There's always an exciting new project to chase or a fresh opportunity for Design Assist. Collaborating with engineers, clients, and our teams to showcase the value of structural steel is highly motivating — there’s always a solution with steel!" 💯 Biggest Win at Schuff Steel? While DPW has worked on iconic projects like the Google Bay View Roof Lifts, stadiums, arenas, and airports, one project stands out: the Arizona Cardinals Stadium Roof Superlift. Leading a dedicated team of true professionals for nearly three years, this project was a career highlight filled with lasting friendships and unforgettable teamwork. 🙌 Words of Encouragement for Industry Newcomers: "Don’t be afraid to ask questions and soak up every bit of knowledge you can. Visit jobsites, fabrication shops, and volunteer for tasks outside your comfort zone — those experiences are invaluable. Hard work pays off, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn." 🚀 Life Outside of Work: When Dave’s not leading projects, he’s spending time with his wife and two kids, both of whom are growing up fast! Dave loves tinkering in his garage on woodworking and metalwork projects, often working on his original Bronco and IH Scout. We’re making great progress at University of Southern California’s Bloom Football Performance Center, with steel erection now more than halfway complete! This impressive 160,000+ square foot facility features an innovative hybrid design that combines mass timber and structural steel. Once finished, it will serve as the state-of-the-art centerpiece of USC’s Athletics West capital projects expansion. Schuff Steel hit a major milestone and topped out our work at the Riverside University Health System’s Wellness Village, a state-of-the-art campus set to transform healthcare in the region by integrating the behavioral health continuum of care into a single environment, combining medical care, behavioral health, and social services. Schuff fabricated and erected 1,900 tons of steel for 4 separate structures, including the Extended Residential Care Building, Children Youth Services Building, Community Wellness Education Center, and the Urgent Care Services Building.  Congratulations to all involved in this achievement and thank you to everyone who came to support this event! With 27 years in the industry and nearly a decade with us (since May 2015!), Amanda plays a key role in managing technical bid packages, client presentations, and sales materials—ensuring our team is set up for success. 🔹 What she loves most about her job: Amanda thrives on the creative and strategic process of crafting proposal packages, turning client RFPs into polished, impactful presentations. 🏆 Proudest accomplishment at Schuff Steel: Beyond her daily responsibilities, Amanda is incredibly proud of co-managing the tenant improvement buildout for our Phoenix office—a rewarding challenge that expanded her skill set and allowed her to help create a new home for our team. 💡 What keeps her motivated? SpeedCore’s innovative prefabricated steel panel system allowed for faster construction while maintaining exceptional strength. With 10,000+ tons of steel fabricated and erected (40% of which was SpeedCore), the team’s precision and collaboration ensured zero required penetration modifications—a testament to true engineering excellence.
