About us
Who We Are SCCADVASA is the statewide coalition of organizations providing intervention services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and Primary Prevention programs to students and communities across the state. Our Work We work towards ending domestic and sexual violence in South Carolina and beyond through engaging individuals and communities in advocacy, collaboration and education. We advocate for the transformative social change that will result in a society free of violence, push for policy changes that support survivors, and provide education and technical assistance to build the capacity of our members, allied organizations and communities to provide trauma-informed and survivor-centered services. Our Hope Our hope is for community in which prevention work is our focus—a commitment to prevent sexual and domestic violence from occurring in the first place—where we can center our work on the building of healthy relationship practices rather than the aftermath of violence. Everyone has the right to live in a community where respect and trust form the core of relationships and fear has no place to thrive.

This Sunday! A reminder to join us at 11am as we introduce the “Sacred Space” traveling art installation at the Aiken Unitarian Universalist Church. The project is a collaboration between SCCADVASA, Interfaith Partners of SC, and Aiken artist Wendelin Russell to offer hope and healing to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. “Survivors walk into the space, look up at the sky and clouds, and write something on a ribbon that is a release for them — a hope, a prayer, an appeal," Russell said. "The ribbon stays and their story is not forgotten.” ➡️ Learn more from The Post and Courier: https://loom.ly/IVKeCl4 #SupportSurvivors #SurvivorHealing #EndDV #EndSexualAssault #CommunityCollaboration #FaithBasedCommunities #Prevention #Healing #YouAreNotAlone

On Sunday, April 13, an outdoor traveling art installation offering survivors of violence, particularly domestic and sexual violence, a safe place to reflect on their stories and start to heal will be introduced during the 11:00 am service at the Aiken Unitarian Universalist Church. The public is invited to attend. The “Sacred Space” project is a collaboration between Aiken artist Wendelin Russell, SCCADVASA, and Interfaith Partners of South Carolina to invoke hope and healing for survivors of violence and foster community connection. The installation will travel throughout the state appearing at places of worship and multi-cultural community events. Russell created the 8’ tall open-air structure by attaching dozens of multi-color ribbons to a square metal frame with each ribbon color representing a different type of violence. Survivors can enter the installation for a moment of reflection and share their story on a ribbon as a way of releasing it and beginning to heal. ➡️ Learn more: https://loom.ly/uULcgx4 #EndDV #EndSexualAssault #CommunityCollaboration #FaithBasedCommunities #Prevention #Healing #YouAreNotAlone

Most sexual assaults are perpetuated not by strangers but by someone the person knows and trusts in a place they feel safe. The Post and Courier has published a commentary by SCCADVASA Executive Director Sara Barber on the prevalence of sexual assault and the responsibility that we ALL have in preventing sexual violence. “We are raised to believe that rape is a horrifying but rare occurrence. A crime that happens in dark alleys. A crime committed by terrifying strangers. A crime that the victim could probably have been prevented if they weren’t out at night, hadn’t been drinking, were dressed differently or had fought back harder. That is a lie.” ➡️ Read the full article: https://loom.ly/SYd2aUI #SAAM #SAAM2025 #EndSexualViolence #EndSexualAssault #FindLocalHelp

It’s easy to think that rape only happens in other communities to people we don’t know. The reality is that EVERY 68 seconds, someone we know and love – a daughter, wife, son, friend, or coworker – is sexually assaulted. Help for sexual assault survivors is available near you. On today’s #SAAM2025 Day of Action, take the time to visit sccadvasa.org/get-help to learn about the resources available in your community to help sexual assault survivors. #FindLocalHelp #EndSexualViolence #SAAMDayofAction #SAAM
