#ThrowBackThursday to earlier this month when we had the pleasure of connecting with so many members of the SCALE community at SEMIExpo Heartland, including the Florida Semiconductor Institute!
Workforce Development Program Specialist @ UF Semiconductor Institute | Chief Administrative Officer @ Future Global Academy | Empowering Innovation & Student Success
What a powerful two days at the SEMIExpo Heartland Workforce Development Pavilion! I’m walking away inspired and affirmed in the work we’re doing at the Florida Semiconductor Institute. From dynamic panels to one-on-one conversations, one thing is clear: the future of semiconductors in the U.S. depends on intentional, inclusive workforce development. Some of the key takeaways: • Rotational programs are working—building well-rounded, resilient talent pipelines (thank you EMD Electronics!). • Software and systems engineers are in high demand, as highlighted by KLA’s Ryan Crosier. • Veterans, re-entry professionals, and students are actively encouraged to explore roles in this industry—through initiatives like SEMI VetWorks and Flash Mentoring. • Purdue’s SCALE K–12 team is doing phenomenal work introducing microelectronics to younger students and teachers. • Purdue University also shared impressive experiential learning initiatives like STARS (Summer Training, Awareness, and Readiness for Semiconductors), VIP SoCET, and VIP@Birck—giving students real-world chip design and fabrication experience. • And let’s not forget the resume reviews and expert sessions, equipping job seekers with tools and confidence to step into high-tech careers. Sharing a few photos from some great conversations and new connections. If we met during the expo—thank you for sharing your time and insight! Let’s continue to elevate workforce voices in tech and keep bridging opportunity to talent—one connection at a time. #SEMIEXPOHeartland #Semiconductors #WorkforceDevelopment

Great work, Jake and team!
I had the opportunity to help share our team’s research at Purdue’s Spring Undergraduate Research Conference today! We presented to multiple judges, and we even had the opportunity to present our research to John Martinson! I joined Purdue SoCET this semester, specifically the FPGA Optimization team as a part of Purdue Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP). As a part of this team, I’ve worked on simulating and collecting testing data for the 16-to-1 multiplexer and developing test cases for testing the 32-to-1 multiplexer and after the conference I hope to work on the 32-to-1 multiplexer’s layout. Through this project, I gained technical skills in using virtuoso for simulation, schematic design, and layout design on top of a deeper understanding of FPGA design. More than that, as a part of Purdue SoCET and now SCALE (Scalable Asymmetric Lifecycle Engagement) as a part of this team, I’ve learned so much about the microelectronics ecosystem and chip design, and I am excited to continue to explore more possibilities and opportunities. Id like to thank Thomas Munson and Timothy Hein for being excellent mentors and for leading us through the project this entire semester. I’d also like to thank Kyle Wang and Daniel Yang for being awesome teammates, it’s been a fun learning experience with you guys!

Meet SCALE student ambassador, Preston London ✨ Preston is a mechanical engineering student at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Huntsville, Alabama, and has been a member of the SCALE program since September 2024. With a strong foundation in engineering principles, he has gained valuable experience through internships and research programs. At Southern Company, he worked with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and contributed to the Standard Asset Data Model (SAM) project, exploring AI’s role in optimizing industrial operations. His research at UAB’s SURE-GM/AI-MED program focused on utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance the correlation between drugs and diseases, strengthening his skills in machine learning, data analysis, and engineering programming. As a SCALE scholar, Preston is eager to collaborate with researchers at Alabama A&M University and Purdue University, applying his knowledge to cutting-edge defense and national security initiatives. Through SCALE, he looks forward to expanding his technical expertise, gaining hands-on experience in radiation effects and advanced materials, and contributing to impactful research that advances the field of engineering

Last week, SCALE students had the unique opportunity to connect with K–12 students during their visit to Purdue University’s Birck Nanotechnology Center, answering their questions and sparking curiosity in #STEM. Check out the highlights on the SCALE K–12 Instagram page: www.instagram.com/scalek12
SCALE K-12 recently hosted a field trip to the Birck Nanotechnology Center at Purdue University, where students from Purdue Polytechnic High School Broad Ripple and Englewood explored the world of advanced microelectronics. Students had the opportunity to tour the cutting-edge facility, participate in hands-on microelectronic activities led by Dr. Greg Strimel, and engage in a thoughtful Q&A session with current SCALE (Scalable Asymmetric Lifecycle Engagement) students. Experiences like these are crucial for building early pathways into STEM and inspiring the engineers, scientists, and technologists of tomorrow. Thank you to our partners at Purdue University, Greg Strimel, and the SCALE (Scalable Asymmetric Lifecycle Engagement) students who shared their journeys and expertise! #STEMEducation #SCALEK12 #PurdueUniversity #Microelectronics #FutureEngineers #K12toCareer #IndustryEducationPartnerships https://lnkd.in/gXC34YGz
