Abi's unwavering dedication was clear when a terminally ill patient shared their final wish to marry their love of 25 years. Abi worked alongside the patient’s family to make this wish a reality, staying by their side during the ceremony to manage respiratory settings and ensure comfort. The joy and gratitude of the couple were immeasurable, as they recognized Nurse Abi, their best man, for the profound impact he had on their lives. Sarasota Memorial has joined 30 research sites testing the effectiveness of Olvi-Vec, an experimental immunotherapeutic drug aimed at optimizing treatment outcomes for patients with late-stage ovarian cancer resistant to standard treatment therapies. “We hope this study yields promising results and ultimately a new treatment that improves outcomes for late-stage ovarian cancer patients whose cancer does not respond to current therapies,” said Beverly Long, MD, principal investigator of the Sarasota Memorial study. Earlier this week, Sarasota Memorial's construction team celebrated a major milestone—the "topping out" of the new 7-story Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion at SMH-Sarasota! The topping out is a time-honored tradition marking the completion of the building's maximum height, which now stands at 142 feet. To date, crews have poured over 18,000 cubic yards of mixed concrete and installed more than 400 tons of reinforcing steel, bringing us one step closer to a full array of outpatient oncology services—all under one roof.
