Sakhi is heartbroken and outraged by the murder of 14-year-old Hira Anwar, a Pakistani-American from New York, killed by her father while visiting family in Quetta, Pakistan on Monday, January 27th. This was not about “honor” or social media—it was gender-based violence. Patriarchal control continues to harm women and girls across generations and borders. We grieve Hira and demand justice—not just punishment, but real change to break these cycles of violence. May Hira Rest in Power.

The Trump administration is escalating attacks on transgender and nonbinary communities through executive orders that strip away critical rights, from access to gender-affirming care to legal recognition. These policies embed structural violence into federal systems, reinforcing exclusion and erasure. But this fight is not new. Trans and nonbinary leaders, especially Black and Brown activists, have long resisted these systems, carving out spaces of survival and transformation. Now is the time for collective action. Stand in solidarity, amplify trans voices, and support trans-led organizations. Read our full statement: https://bit.ly/4jFkk6M #TransRightsAreHumanRights #ProtectTransLives #NoOneIsErased

Sakhi was proud to stand in solidarity at The People’s March in Washington, D.C. on January 18th. When our communities rise, we rise together. Activism isn’t just a choice—it’s a necessity. The fight for gender justice, immigrant rights, and collective liberation are deeply intertwined, and we refuse to be silenced. We march because our voices matter. We march because our communities deserve safety, dignity, and power. We march because justice is a right, not a privilege. Sakhi isn’t going anywhere. We will continue to resist and build a future where every survivor, every worker, every dreamer is free. Women's March

America’s foundations of violence, racism, and gendered oppression are not relics of the past—they are forces that continue to shape our present. In Refinery29, our Executive Director, Kavita Mehra, explores how Trump’s return to power reflects a dangerous normalization of harm, with gender-based violence and systemic oppression entrenched at the highest levels of leadership. Kavita challenges us to confront these truths: to acknowledge how privilege sustains inequities, dismantle the systems that perpetuate harm, and reimagine a future rooted in justice, equity, and liberation. This is a moment to act, dream boldly, and transform our collective future.
