“Making history isn’t the assignment — building a legacy is the assignment.” We were so honored to have Governor Wes Moore speak this heart felt message as we celebrated the Rock Creek Foundations 50th year. For 50 years we have built a foundation that centers around people-first service — and we couldn’t be more proud. For five decades, we’ve stood at the intersection of deep care, bold innovation, and real community. We’ve never followed the crowd — we’ve built new paths. Not because it’s easy, but because every person we serve deserves a future filled with dignity, independence, and joy. That’s the heart and soul of Rock Creek — and it’s what has made growth possible for so many. We also celebrate a milestone within our own walls: the leadership of President Najla Wortham — the first female and first African American president in Rock Creek history. Her vision, passion, and presence are a powerful reminder that when we lead with purpose, we build something that lasts. Here’s to 50 years of impact — and the legacy we’re still writing, together.

🚨 The Disability Community Is at Risk. 🚨 The U.S. House has passed a budget resolution that includes $880 billion in cuts, with Medicaid squarely in the crosshairs. The Senate could vote as soon as next week. Let’s be clear: A cut of this magnitude would be devastating to the disability community. Medicaid isn’t just a line item — it’s lifesaving support for millions of people with disabilities. It’s access to care. Housing. Employment supports. Independence. Dignity. At Rock Creek Foundation, we see what happens when people get the support they need — and what’s at stake when that support disappears. Now is the time to speak out. 📣 Contact your Senators. 📣 Share this message. 📣 Stand with the disability community. Because real care doesn’t cut corners — and we cannot afford to be silent. #FundDisabilitySupport #NoCutsToMedicaid #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights #RockCreekFoundation #RealSupportRealLife

"So you help disabled people find jobs, right?" Well, kind of... A lot of people think our work is just about helping individuals find jobs. And, of course, that’s a big part of it—because real, paying jobs mean independence. But what people don’t always see is everything else that goes into truly supporting someone. It’s making sure they have clean clothes that make them feel good. A bed that’s fresh and comfortable. A meal that’s not just nutritious but actually enjoyable. It’s checking in on their mental health, making sure they’re surrounded by people who care about them. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about working—it’s about living. Feeling respected, supported, and part of a real community. And that’s what we’re here for.

The words we use matter. A lot. It’s easy to forget, but the way we talk about disabilities shapes the way people feel—about themselves, about their worth, about how the world sees them. At Rock Creek, we believe in speaking with care, with respect, and with people at the center of every sentence. That means ditching outdated terms, avoiding labels that box people in, and choosing words that uplift instead of limit. Not sure where to start? Swipe through for some simple ways to make your language more inclusive. Because real respect starts with real words.

Let's talk about Sharon's apartment -- and why this is a HUGE win! We’re so excited to share this special moment with you! Meet Sharon, a long-time member of the Rock Creek family who has made incredible strides in her journey toward independent living. From living in a group home to now having her own space with supported care, she’s created a home that reflects her personality and her progress. At Rock Creek, we don’t just provide services—we help individuals become engaged and connected to their community. We’ve been there every step of the way, backing up her skills and supporting her in doing the things she loves. It’s been amazing to watch her thrive and grow, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far she’s come.

As March draws to a close, we have to call out the fact that Gov. Wes Moore officially proclaimed it to be Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. We are so thankful for the recognition of this part of our community, and for the many ways it has been celebrated by our peers, elected leadership, organizational leadership and friends. Next year will be even better! Did you do anything special to celebrate DDA month?

Yesterday we reached an exciting milestone - we packed and delivered the first orders for items from our Community Closet! Creating and stocking the closet has been a labor of love, as has finding the best way to share its contents with our staff and consumers. Everyone deserves basic human dignity, and providing access to the items pictured helps our staff and consumers achieve just that. We can't wait to learn more about how to improve equity in our community using this tool. Let us know if you'd like to make a donation - personal care items and good condition clothing are always welcome! #humandignity #communitycloset #communitycare #caringforcarers #rockcreekcares
