About us

Founded in 1984 by Dan Arnold, Road Ranger began its journey as a small, privately-owned chain of C-Stores, headquartered in Rockford, Illinois. With a plan for rapid expansion and growth, Road Ranger has set a new standard for travel center innovation, customer convenience, comfort, and safety. Road Ranger today stands as the fourth-largest travel center chain in the United States. Road Ranger proudly serves professional drivers, motorists, and travelers throughout the mid-continental United States. Locations can be conveniently found on major highways in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Arkansas, and Texas. Road Ranger locations offer clean facilities, CAT Scales, well-lit and spacious lots, top-tier gasoline, complimentary customer loyalty programs, dog parks, and a wide variety of high-quality hot food to go. In addition to these offerings, we also provide a variety of quick-service restaurants including Ranger Kitchen, Dan’s Pizza, Tejas Tacos, Wendy’s, Subway, Church's Chicken, Chester's, Cinnabon, Dickie's Barbecue Pit, McDonald's, and Burger King. In today’s CStore Connections general session panel, we discussed how these retailers demystify data within Parker's Kitchen, Road Ranger, and Crosby's Stores (Reid Stores, Inc.). Ask the hard questions, centralize data, and start with leadership. The data you don’t want to look at is the data you need to look at. These are exceptionally brilliant leaders and exceptionally amazing people. What an honor this has been. CStore Decisions

At Road Ranger, Eric Arnold challenges himself in his category manager role to anticipate customers’ needs and find ways to keep products affordable for them. Since becoming category manager, Arnold has launched the “Bargain Bin,” redesigned the in-store layout and established an energy club card. Started four years ago, the Bargain Bin was a way for Arnold to offer customers a unique product that was price friendly. Through a partnership with a newly sourced apparel company, Road Ranger introduced $1 T-shirts and $5 hoodies. “Customers were telling us they were going to Road Ranger specifically for these items. You’d see something posted on social media about it. And the best part was it wasn’t just, as we say, for a four-wheel customer; truckers were also excited, seeing that they had told us it’s cheaper to buy $7 worth of T-shirts than to do a week’s worth of laundry,” he said. The Bargain Bin turned into a $500,000 program. CStore Decisions is acknowledging Arnold’s hard work, creative ideas and successful problem solving with a Category Management Award.

  • It was a bittersweet moment as we gathered at our corporate office for a sponsorship closing meeting with NASCAR driver Ty Majeski. Over the past three incredible years, we've had the honor and privilege of being Ty's primary sponsor, riding along with him on his thrilling journey in the world of professional racing. As Ty walked in, smiling warmly and shaking hands with everyone, the room was filled with a sense of pride and camaraderie. We reminisced about the unforgettable moments we've shared - the heart-pounding races, the triumphant victories, and the challenges overcome through sheer determination and skill. Ty expressed his heartfelt gratitude for our unwavering support, emphasizing how much it has meant to have us in his corner through thick and thin. As the meeting drew to a close, there were hugs, laughter, and maybe even a few misty eyes. Though this chapter of our partnership is coming to an end, the bonds forged will endure. We will always be Ty's most fervent fans, cheering him on from the stands and eagerly following his continued ascent in the world of NASCAR. As we bid farewell, we did so with the knowledge that the best is yet to come for this incredibly talented driver. Ty, here's to you and all the amazing successes that await you on the track and beyond. We'll be watching with pride and rooting for you every step of the way. (See you on the short track, kid.)
