Reading Ambitiously, a weekly newsletter from our very own Ridgeline Head of Strategy Jack Lynch, is quickly become a favorite among execs who want to stay sharp on AI, enterprise tech, and what’s coming next. This week’s issue includes thought leadership co-authored with former Blackstone CTO Bill Murphy and takes on some big questions: Why are most enterprises playing it too safe with AI? What would it look like to disrupt yourself? Find a link in the comments and subscribe if you’re into bold thinking, sharp curation, and smart takes built for busy leaders.
Head of Strategy at Ridgeline | Vertical Cloud & AI for Global Investment Managers | Writer at Reading Ambitiously
Startups are dreaming big about AI, but enterprise adoption is stuck in incrementalism. I'm super pumped to be co-authoring this weeks Reading Ambitiously with my friend Bill Murphy—former CTO of Blackstone and now Managing Partner at Cresting Wave. Bill gets pitched by hundreds of AI startups every year, and he has a front-row seat to where the enterprise is falling short. Together, we explore why this "vibe gap" exists, what leaders can do differently, and how to lay the groundwork for AI to truly transform your business. Because if you’re not thinking in terms of reinvention, you may be walking straight into what Clay Christensen called the Innovator’s Dilemma—protecting the past while forfeiting the future. Ridgeline Takes AI to the Next Level In 2024, Ridgeline, a cloud platform for investment management, introduced artificial intelligence into its platform thanks to a partnership with OpenAI. Now it’s upping the ante. Earlier this month, the company announced that it had launched its new AI agent framework, introducing dedicated agents for client management and trade compliance, with several more in development. These capabilities are designed to improve firm operations, streamline decision-making, and free up teams to focus on strategic priorities by using agents to autonomously execute tasks, manage workflows, and escalate approvals for human review. The agents serve as an extension of a firm’s workforce, powered by Ridgeline’s unified data model, and understand the nuances of asset management workflows. The firm’s moves with AI were paying off before introducing the agents: in August 2024, Kennedy Capital Management switched its technology platform to Ridgeline, with Kennedy’s Chief Strategy Officer, Niraj Shah, saying Ridgeline’s product “just makes sense” and that, by using it, “it’s hard to describe what’s possible now.”

Ridgeline recently hosted a private panel at the InvestOps conference moderated by Patrick O'Shaughnessy, CFA, host of the 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘴𝘵 podcast. Thank you to Patrick and our excellent panelists: - Bob Kurinsky (COO/CFO Driehaus Capital Management LLC) - Jana Roberts (Operations Specialist, Eagle Capital Management, LLC) - Jeff Kazen (Head of Operations and Technology, Altrinsic Global Advisors, LLC). These industry thought leaders engaged in a fascinating discussion around how their respective firms are embracing change in the modern era. The above quote is from Bob Kurinsky, who went on to say, "Portfolio managers who are early adopters, the ones following tech companies - they realize it's in 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 to stay abreast of technology developments in operations infrastructure." Want to get up to speed on what's next for the industry?
