  • "If I could relive one day, it's not a certain day, but there's probably 2 days. One: my oldest son went into the military and the last time that I spoke to him we had a very lengthy conversation. And that was the last time that I spoke to him because he didn’t come back home alive. 21 years old. So, that conversation was important. He was over there and he called when we were able to get a hold of each other. I was taking a lunch - that was when I had the furniture store - I went out back and sat in my vehicle and we talked for an hour or so… which was kind of unusual because you don’t normally get to talk that long. But it was just a matter of days later that an IED took out the tank that he was in - he was in Iraq. It would be nice to be able to go back and have more of a conversation with him. The other day I would relive would be one where I get to have a conversation with my dad. He suffered with Alzheimer's for 15 years, which is a long time. And he was always a strong figure: slow to speak, chose his words carefully, and therefore if he said something, it was important. He had a lot of wisdom. So just to be able to have the opportunity to sit down and visit and talk with him would be amazing. Those are the 2 days that would be nice to be able to do again… it makes you really realize what's important. We get caught up in a lot of things - all of us do - but what is really important? It's who you are and the people around you, and how you show yourself to them and others." Vincent Gibbs - Sr. Member Advisor | Park West #HumansOfREV

  • REV is celebrating its 70th Anniversary! As we join our President & CEO Jason Lee in reflecting on our legacy, we couldn’t be prouder of the tremendous impact we’ve had in the communities we serve. This milestone wouldn’t be possible without our incredible members. On behalf of our entire team, THANK YOU!

President/CEO at REV Federal Credit Union

Do you ever reflect on your organization’s legacy? In 1955, we opened our doors as the Charleston Air Base Federal Credit Union to serve the financial needs of civil service employees. Over the course of the next seven decades, we have had the distinct privilege of achieving several firsts. These include installing South Carolina’s first ATM in 1977 and opening its first student-run high school branch in 2015. We will also become the first credit union to acquire a community bank in the State of West Virginia. Since being founded, we have rebranded, survived Hurricane Hugo, overcome the Great Recession and Pandemic, and evolved into a multi-state financial institution generating $4B in economic impact across the communities we serve. As REV celebrates its 70th anniversary, I can’t help but appreciate the significance of this milestone. At its peak, over 20,000 credit unions existed in comparison to the 4,400 remaining today. What began as an organization formed by 5 civilian Air Force employees has flourished into an institution serving the financial needs of 66,000 member-owners. REV has built a reputation for its commitment to putting people over profit. Actively working to ensure that the communities we serve are thriving. In reflecting on the incredible journey this organization has taken, I’m proud of the legacy we’ve built and of the countless people past and present that have made REV what it is today. And, I’m confident in saying, the best is yet to come!

  • “I was in my 30’s - I will never forget it. You know how sometimes you have people begging for money. One particular day I went to a Chinese restaurant and saw this young lady; she looked to be around 50. I was walking out and she said, ‘could you please buy me a meal. I have no money. I’m really hungry, I just want something to eat.’ I said ‘no’. I just said ‘no, I can’t help you,’ and I got in my car. While driving away, I’m like - that lady seems sincere. It was something different about that particular woman. She didn’t ask for money. She asked me to go in with her and purchase her a meal. So, I turned around, because it hit me: you know, this could be you one day. This could be your loved one. Who do you think you are? You have a pocket full of money, but you told this lady ‘no’ for no reason. So I turned around and I called her back. I said, ‘ma’am, come on. I’m going to buy you a meal.’ I said, ‘you get whatever you want.’ She got chicken and rice. She said, ‘that’s all I want. I haven’t eaten in two days.’ The lady started crying. She sat down and said, ‘would you sit with me?’ ‘Oh,’ I said. ‘Sure, I will sit with you.’ I sat with her, but she didn’t talk much. She just kept thanking me for doing that. That changed my perspective on things. You have to be kind. You have to show empathy. You have to treat people the way you want to be treated. And initially, I didn’t. But she got to me. That humbled me.” Emma Washington – Senior Asset Recovery Specialist #HumansOfREV

  • “I’ve always been drawn to the game. The nuances, the strategies, the ebbs and flows of momentum. All of it really tugs at so many thoughts and emotions. Even the off season gets me. I just can’t get enough of it. Maybe it’s a family thing. My grandparents were the biggest Yankees fans I have ever known, and it was so special watching games with them. I’ll never forget our phone call after the final out of the 1996 World Series, so much excitement and tears of joy, it’s one of my fondest memories’. I hope to give a memory like that to my kids one day.” Paul McManus | Vice President of Organizational Development #HumansOfREV

  • “If I’m feeling artsy, I will work on some art. I was an art major and sometimes I will paint or draw. I would like to set aside more time to do those things. I just got my grandmother’s easel - she was very artsy. She just passed in December and after cleaning out her house, my family let me have her easel, which is kind of a really cool thing. And her paintbrushes! So I’m really excited; I want to use them, but I kinda don’t want to use them. There’s actually a painting of me that she attempted when I was a kid and everybody has told me to finish it… she finished everything but my face! It’s really funny - it’s cute. I’m outside in a little outfit, everything is colored in, and then the place for my face is just, like, the canvas. It will be interesting. I will try to finish it one day, just not right now.” Cailan Long | Member Advisor - Coleman Branch #HumansOfREV

  • "My hobby is crafting and home interior because I love to create. You want to create a beautiful life, so I look at all the things that I do in life as creativity. What can I make beautiful? Whether it’s a smile or it's an object or something that's going to say, 'hey! This is Angela and this is what she does!' I love creating happiness - being able to create and see the beauty of the creation is one of the best things. When I learned to create through arts and crafts and home interior, that actually brought out a side that was like 'oh man, this is me all day! This makes me happy and makes people happy!' When you put those two things together, it almost defines you. When someone's in need, we ought to be able to give a side of us to let them know I'm not just here for the moment; I'm here for the long run. I choose beauty and I choose smiles and happiness. I choose hearts all day!” Angela Todd | Park West - Member Advisor #HumansOfREV

  • “Ever since I was a little kid, my dad would give me money to throw in fountains and make wishes. So now I always do that - everywhere I go I try to have change. My friends actually buy me rolls of pennies just so that I will have them, and I have taught all of their kids and everybody that you always have to make a wish in the fountain.” Pamela’s high school yearbook quote was “the dream that you wish will come true”, and her outlook is always highlighted with that optimism for life. From her proud moment when her mom cried happy tears upon learning that Pamela was promoted to Branch Manager, to never missing a Green Bay Packers football game with her dad in 40 years, Pamela’s passion and positive outlook have anchored her - in the moments she wished for on pennies as well as the tougher times.” Pamela Wood - Retail Branch Manager - Coleman #HumansOfREV
