We had a fantastic time at our Spring Open House last week! 🌸🎸🏠 The afternoon was filled with excitement as we welcomed friends and neighbors to explore our organization. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about our services, enjoy live music, and connect with one another.  A big thank you to our volunteers, staff, and community members for making this event so wonderful. Here's Ms. Santos' story: Ms. Santos came to Respite Care of San Antonio in 2023, seeking childcare for her 5-year-old son on the Autism Spectrum. Ms. Santos and her child were homeless at the time and staying with friends and close relatives, and it usually depended on whether they were tolerant or supportive of her child with autism. Ms. Santos enrolled her son in full-time childcare to be able to find employment while also grieving the passing of her parents, who were her support system. With more time dedicated to job searching, Ms. Santos was able to find employment within a few weeks after enrolling her son into our program. Additionally, she could move into a small apartment after just a few months. She has since shared with us that she is grateful to have found the childcare center, allowing her the time and tools necessary to get back on her feet. Double your impact today! Vulnerable children often need someone to truly recognize and advocate for them. RCSA provides essential support for the children it serves. This is "A's" story: When "A" arrived at our emergency shelter with his two siblings during an overnight intake, something wasn't right. Despite being told he only needed minimal assistance with his muscular dystrophy, our staff heard his screams of pain as he was carried to his wheelchair. While RCSA was informed he had been evaluated and was fine, our medical team trusted their instincts and took "A" to the children's hospital, where doctors discovered what nobody else had caught—a broken femur. Our dedicated team supported "A" through his recovery, even as his siblings were placed with families hours away. We then helped him transition closer to his siblings, working toward family reunification despite the challenges. This is how your support makes a difference. "Imelda," a single mother of two young daughters, found herself in crisis when her 4-year-old daughter "Lea," who has autism, was asked to leave her daycare because the staff wasn't trained to support her needs. Forced to leave her job to care for Lea, Imelda soon began to face financial troubles. That's when she discovered RCSA and its Developmental Childcare Program. Both of her daughters now receive quality care in an inclusive environment through our programs. With just one drop-off and pick-up each day, Imelda returned to full-time work and stabilized her family's finances.
